Open Kyokushin Championships 2001 - REPORT -
From Independent source On Last Sunday, March 18 in Dordrecht, The Netherlands, the Dutch Open Kyokushin Tournament was held. With competitors from Holland, Belgium, Denmark, and Austria, the tournament showed many good fighters and exciting battles all over. 'Best man of the day overall' turned out to be Vincent du Prée, who won all his fights by K.O. and all 3 of them within 40 seconds!! The Lightweight Champion of 2000 has become even stronger than before. As Vincent is living now in Baltimore, USA, Vincent du Prée will now prepare himself again for the next tournaments by attending the classes of Shihan Gorai in New York. His performance was appreciated by the jury by awarding him the Best fighter-award. Vincent du Prée achieved the impossible by receiving all possible awards, something that no-one in the Netherlands ever has received before. Best fighter in middle weight was the very technical fighter Mikael Biskos, who showed his magnificent fighting skills, he has picked up during his stay in Japan as ushi-deshi for the Honbu dojo. The Heavy weight category was totally controlled by the Dutch, and was won by one of the best talents of Holland, Berry Stal, who defended his title with great success, beating again the very experienced fighter Richard von Mansfeldt in the final. Again Von Mansfeldt had to go down to the canvas after receiving too many low kicks. In the Super heavy weight category, there was a big surprise as international top fighter Rudolph Conquet, who only lost by referee decision on the last World Championships in Tokyo from Glaube Feitosa, lost in the final, his Dutch title. The new Heavy Weight Champion of Holland is now Domenico Monasso, one of the fighters who also will be competing in the next European Championships to be held in Hungary. For every category the best 2 Dutch fighters were invited by Shihan Jan Vleesenbeek (Godan) and Shihan Loek Hollander (Nanadan) to defend the honour of the Dutch in May in Hungary Results: Light
