Rules and Regulations
The minimum number of players required to play a game with the WIFFLE ball is two the pitcher and batter one player per side. The maximum number of players that can complete are ten five players to a side. But in this league, it is always a two on two game. If a full team is playing, each side will consist of a catcher, pitcher, double area fielder, triple area fielder and home run area fielder.
Fielders cannot move from one area to another when a full team is playing. As in baseball, the game is played with one team at bat and one team in the field. The batting order of the team at bat shall be Fielder than Pitcher, and if there is a Designated Hitter, he always hits last, and has to be catcher the entire game. The rules of play are similar to baseball, however there is no base running. TWO outs to retire a side, per inning, four innings per game. In case of a tie, additional innings are played. For a complete inning, both sides must bat.
Inning consist of 3 strikes and 2 outs.
Pitching as fast as you can is not allowed, pitch different speeds with change-ups and sliders etc...
A strike zone can consist of a metal chair from Tonys Clam Shoppe, a plastic lawn chair with or without a recycling bin on it vertically and anything else in that size range.
If a batter swings at the pitch and hits a fair ball off of his hand's, the ball shall be ruled a fair ball.
You can rob a home run, but you cannot rob a homerun that gets caught up in the trees, (COOP rules do not apply)
Any fair ball that goes over the fence is a home run. If an outfielder touches the ball, it is still considered a home run.
Slaughter rule: The game switches to a new at bat with more than 10 runs in an inning if and only if both teams want to switch to make the game fair.
An out for the batter can be made in three ways:
The batter can strike out only if he/she swings at a pitched ball and does not foul tip the third strike. Foul tips count as a strike for the first two strikes only. A foul tip caught in back of the batters box does not count as an out.
Fly balls caught in fair or foul territory
Ground balls caught while the ball is in motion, in fair territory. Bunting is not allowed and the batter cannot obtain a base on balls.
Scoring -
Pitching- Pitchers are wanted to have 2 innings each when the game is a 2 on 2 but if the other lets his teammate pitch more than usual he is able to. Only if the pitcher throws 3+ innings and his team wins the game, is he rewarded the win for the game. There are no save opportunities in the small four inning games. In all games the pitcher is allowed to switch when 3 or more runs are scored in an inning. Or if the pitcher just feels like he is not doing his job.
The baseball rules of scoring apply:
Example: A player hits a single his/her team has a man on first base (imaginary runners). The next player hits a single the team now has a man of first and second. Third batter hits a home run three runs score! (The imaginary runners on first and second, plus the home run.)
A double can be the amount of field needed to be a double and it has to be over the fielders head.
Triple is off a the fence at every field. Dropped ball is a single. A ball that stops before the pitcher is a foul but if its close enough and the pitcher gets it, it is an out.
A batter earns 1 imaginary base on a single, 2 imaginary bases on a double and 3 imaginary bases on a triple.
A runner on 1st goes to 2nd on a single, 3rd on a double and scores on a triple.
A runner on 2nd base scores on a double, or triple.
A runner on 3rd base scores on a force.
You can not lean into a pitch if it is going to hit the strike zone so it hits you or it is called an automatic strike. Swinging with one hand is allowed as it can be used to your advantage or disatvantage. If a ball hits the rocky/dirt area infront of the chair, and it goes in play, the ball is in play. If that ball is played correctly, it may be recorded as an out. Double plays are legal in the BWBL, a double play is executed by recording an out via. fly ball, grounder etc., and then throwing the ball into the strike zone from where the play was made. If the ball does not hit the strike zone, only one out is recorded, (the one that was made before the double play was attempted)
