Just an ordinary person.

Here are the basic details.

My name is Anthony Michael Walker and I am proud to be a Johns Hopkins nurse.I have worked there in a variety of settings over the past thirteen years, but I am enjoying my current job in the operating room the most of all. I work with a team of surgeons and anesthesiologists that are the best in the world at what they do. Working in a hospital can be very rewarding but it can also be a high stress job. I find everyone on our Operating Room team to be a very dedicated professional. We each strive to do the best job we can do for each patient. At times, the things we do and the things we see are hard to put out of our minds at the end of the day. That's why I like to ask the people I meet if they have a hobby. I feel it is healthy to have some creative outlet to take you away from the stress of the day. I am also discovering that my hobby has many other benefits. I'm a happier person in all aspects of my life. I'm having fun and I'm on a path of self discovery.

Let me tell you about my "Sculptors Toolbox". As an operating room nurse, I have access to hardened carbide steel drill bits and diamond burs. The surgeons use them to shave and shape bone in their operations. The drill bits are normally discarded after each surgery, but I am able to clean and sterilize them and use them to carve detail into each of my marble sculptures. The drill bits are critical to my sculpting - they last a very long time before getting dull. The drill bits also cut into the stone in a very unique way to leave my "signature".

I have a great deal of excitement about my relationship with stone. I am only just beginning to answer the many questions about what exactly it is that I am doing and why I am doing it. My art definitely comes from a passion to create, and a desire to share the creative process with others. I want to inspire others to do something artistic or be creative in their daily lives. Most people do not explore their interest in art because they don't think their art would ever be good enough. I love to see art that is from the non-professional artist. I think it is almost always good. Perhaps that is why people describe me as a "positive and upbeat person". I find beauty in everything around me - especially the people.
