IN HONOR OF MY MOTHER
FROM DAUGHTER, DANA!

This site was created in February of 2003 in honor of my Mother, who is my very best friend, and whom I love with all my heart. She loves God and knows Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior! She has always loved her family and is a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, daughter and sister. She also has learned how "to dance" through life's trouble, as the words are reflected in the link below:

JEANNENE CAROL CARNER BATES

HERE IS HER STORY:

My Mother was born in Roanoke, Virginia on July 22, 1947. She was raised just outside of Roanoke, in a small community called Chamblissburg.

She was born with personality plus. As a little girl, she asked for a sandwich with mayonaise and pickles. When told that kind of sandwich wouldn't be a very tasty combination, she said "Oh yes it is...Jesus used to fix them all the time for me in Heaven."

My Mother attended Stewartsville Elementary School and graduated from Staunton River High School, where she was very active in many things. She was born with a beautiful voice, a gift of music, and sang in the choir at Parrish Chapel Methodist Church.

Shortly after their marriage, my Dad went into the Air Force to serve his country in the Vietnam War. My Mother was pregnant when he had to leave. Their first born son, Eric, was born, while my Dad was in Texas during his basic training. My Mother lived with her Mother and Daddy, and younger sister, during that time. My Dad didn't see my brother until he was 3 months old. After the training in Texas, my parents moved to Missouri for a short while, then my Dad was sent to Vietnam for a year. My Mother and little brother, once again came home and lived with her Mother and Dad.

My Dad made a 23 year career out of the Air Force, which took them to many places around the world. After his basic training in Texas, they were based in Missouri, before my Dad was sent to Vietnam. After his return, they were stationed in California, Okinawa-Japan, Sumter, South Carolina and finally in Charleston, South Carolina. Just before my Dad retired, The Desert Storm conflict happened and my Dad's plane, a C-141, flew many missions in and out of there, carrying supplies.

My Mother always worked a secretarial job, during Dad's Air Force career. Later, in South Carolina, she passed the Civil Service exam and began working for the government. Today, she works on Charleston Air Force Base, as does my Dad, although now in civilian personel positions.

My Dad's Air Force job took him away on many flying missions, leaving my Mother to basically raise and discipline 3 children. The task became an even greater challenge when the children became teenagers, as they began to see how far they could step over the line, which is a stage that most teenagers go through. However, for my Mother, with my Dad being away so much of the time, and with the Air Force life taking her away from her parents, the burden was great on my Mother, to go it alone. I only pray that she knows how very much we all love her now and appreciate everything that she went through and sacrificed for our sake.
