Our Mission Statement

To preserve an important segment of history - Tinplate Toy Trains - through research, establishment of collecting standards, education, community outreach, and fellowship and to promote the growth and enjoyment of the hobby.

The Train Collectors Association is dedicated to the enjoyment of the toy train hobby. Our local Chapter serves the Maryland, Washington, D.C., Northern Virginia and Delaware areas. To become a member of the local chapter you must first join the national organization. (see Train Collectors Association link below).

Below are the many benefits your membership entitles you to:

  • ADMISSION to all our meets at no additional charge.

  • A newsletter published quarterly with upcoming events, articles and helps from "Overheard in the Parts Department," advertising to help you find what you are looking for, minutes of the meetings and much more.

  • A video tape library of WB&A member layouts.

  • Three (3) train shows a year that are open to the public (members and non-members). All TCA members have the opportunity to buy, sell or trade trains and train related items at these shows. As at all TCA sponsored meets, we follow the TCA description/grading Standards.

  • Our "Train Doctor" Dan Danielson is available to examine your sick locos and make minor repairs FREE. (Nominal charge for parts, as needed).

  • Themed Train Displays

  • A 50/50 CASH Raffle with the winner taking home 50% of the cash raised.

  • An interactive layout with running trains and accessories that is "a great BIG hit with the children".

  • Parts Dealers (new and old)

  • Great food at reasonable prices!

  • One (1) hour of TCA member trading ONLY starting at 8:00 am - then the public is admitted from 9:00 am until closing.

  • Train Evaluations & Appraisals by Sam Geiser

  • Operators and collectors available to share their wealth of information and to assist you with your train collecting.

  • Layout builders to build or assist you in building your layout.

Tables are available to all TCA members for the selling of trains & train related items at a nominal fee. Contact Sam Geiser to rent a table at 301-931-1269.

We also offer two (2) Mini Meets (June 6, 2004 and November 13, 2004) that include these great benefits available to our WB&A members:
  • A FREE table to sell, trade or display your trains/train related items. These tables are available on a first come basis.

  • Our general membership business meetings are held during this meet and all members are urged to attend. Be a part of the chapter success.

  • We serve FREE Coffee, Sodas, and Donuts followed by a FREE lunch!!!

  • Meet people knowledgeable in areas of interest to the train hobby ie, operators, collectors, historians, train repairmen, appraisers, layout builders, current market trends and much more are available to answer your questions and assist you as needed.

  • Show off your engineering skills at the train races. Awards given to the "BEST" engineer at the controls.

  • Door prizes. You never know what you could go home with.

  • Silent auction for a prized item. June 6, 2004 we will have a silent auction for the Ocean Spray Boxcar.

    and best of all, you have an opportunity to meet and socialize with people who love trains just like you.

    The cost of membership is $15.00 per calendar year. Please email Robert Heine, our Membership Chairman or Debbie Geiser, the Secretary for an application to join.

    Locations of the WB&A Meets: The Kena Temple meet is held at the Shriner's Kena Temple, 9001 Arlington Blvd. and Route 50 West, Falls Church, Va. The September 11, 2004 Oregon Ridge Lodge meet is held at the Oregon Ridge Lodge, 13401 Beaver Dam Road, Cockeysville, MD 21030
