95 degrees and a sunny day were perfect conditions as the Masters performances shined at Meet #3 of the Metro Harriers Track and Field Challenge.
Morgan State coach and former two time Olympian from Trinidad Neville Hodge got a "tune up" in for next month's World Masters Championships in Australia. Hodge got a great start and was just just outleaned at the line (by an open athlete) clocking 10.7 seconds for 100 meters finishing second overall. Neville also won the 100 meters Masters section impressively at the Penn Relays.
North Caroline High School coach Glen Whiteley is aiming for the U.S. Masters Championships in Lousiana later this month. He finished second in the 200 (23.1) and fifth in a loaded 400 field in 53.3.
Eastern Shore residents Robert Drysdale and Dave Webster both had excellent times of 4:32 in the 1500 meters. Webster later on "doubled" in the 3,000 (9:59) finishing second.
Coppin State's Pete Pinnock led the "open" athletes winning the 100 in 10.6. The deepest field in the meet was the 400 meters where Pete won with a lean at 49.5.
Brett Harvey of the Woodlawn Track Club came through the 400 in 58, and held on to win the 800 in 2:02. Dave Griffing finished second in 2:04. Josh Alcombright (Northeast High Track Coach) placed third in 2:08, and also won the pole vault in 11 feet 6 inches.
Salisbury State's Steve Jacobs had a distance double for the second week in a row. He won the 1500 in 4:26 by outkicking Jason Cox (Lansdowne's six-time State Champion ad Catonsville C.C. Cross Country All American. Jacobs outkicked Dave Webster in the 3,000 (9:52).
13 year old Devon Williams of the DC Capital Track Club pulled off an outstanding sprint triple in winning the 100 (12.3), 200 (25.7), and the 400 (1:03.1)
North County freshmen April Penn won the 1500 in 6:07.
West Virginia University's Laura Paugh won the pole vault (9 feet 6 inches) and finished second in the long jump (14 feet 3 inches).
North County sophomore Emily Deinlein won the Shot Put with a throw of 31 feet.
