Congenital
malformations
• congenital atresia of the duodenum (see Chapter 58);
• congenital atresia of the small intestine (see Chapter 58);
• volvulus neonatorum (see Chapter 58);
• vascular anomalies (angiodysplasia) (see below);
• malrotation of the colon with
failure of descent of the caecum which remains under the right lobe of the
liver. This is clearly very important should the patient develop appendicitis
(see Chapter 59).
