Today, I took this website down. It's been up since about 1999. I sort of feel like I'm taking my child off of life support :,( . But I never update it. And it's not exactly sophisticated, either; I never even tried frames. I just wanted a public place to share my opinions with the world and perhaps entertain a few people while doing it.

Angelfire is bad. Very bad. Do not use them if you value your intellectual property. Apparently, they think that because I haven't logged in to my user account recently, that I have abandoned it. Of course, they pulled pranks even when I used it frequently. It seems like more and more of my content (if you've seen it before and think negatively of it, keep your comments to yourself; I know what it was like) was disappearing. Then Angelfire can't even be honest about their role in things that have gone missing. I've noticed text, images, scripts, etc. disappearing completely out of the blue, or things became corrupt, etc. Usually, I noticed a gradual change in what was there, as in, more and more stuff was missing. I even noticed that a couple pages became just one big blank space! Though the pages themselves still existed! What the...? They really had no excuse for it. I didn't even have questionable content!

Tech support is practically non-existent. You can't count on them for anything, worthless b*****ds. The integrity of your files is always in question (ALWAYS back up, every time you update the page!)... I guess, what can you expect for free service? Your expectations have to be L-O-W.

When I first signed up, one of the things that attracted me to Angelfire was that they offered 50 megs of free space. Sounds like a lot, huh? Turns out that in time, they decided to cut that back to 20 megs instead. Without telling users, of course. I had over 20 megs worth of stuff, and it was around that time when I believe that stuff on my pages went missing more frequently, though I wasn't checking it very often. By the way, my account was then under 20 megs, though not by my own hand, interestingly enough.

A few of my previous complaints...

NOTE: THIS PAGE HAD TO BE RELOADED. THIS IS AN OLD SCRIPT; I DON'T UPDATE [MY BACKUPS] AS MUCH AS I SHOULD. THEREFORE STUFF IS MISSING. EITHER I MADE A MISTAKE, THE JAVASCRIPT'S SCREWY, OR ANGELFIRE'S SCREWY. PERHAPS ALL OF THE ABOVE.

UPDATE (1/10/01): For about a week, I, nor was anyone else, was "authorized" to view my pages. I lost a CRAPLOAD of stuff because Angelfire had a "bug". ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS BACK-UP! WHICH I DID! MOSTLY!

1/20/00: GRRR!!! I JUST REALIZED SOMETHING! Angelfire truncated a lot of my files, especially my sound files! I hate them. Grrr.

Also, I noticed in pretty much all of my Angelfire email accounts, SPAM exploded in them! And I wasn't necessarily using those accounts when I casually passed my email on to businesses! Now a while ago, Angelfire decided to stop allowing people to create email accounts ending in @angelfire.com. What I think happened is that they're using spam to chase out the remaining users. I think they're trying to bully me. I don't appreciate it.

So, I'm leaving. I guess you got what you wanted, Angelfire/Carnegie-Mellon University tech SCUM. But I'm keeping those accounts open, partly because I have some stuff in them, and partly to annoy Angelfire. I wonder that if read this, they will completely close down this account in revenge... I wouldn't put it above them. Even if it's supposed to be free, Angelfire should at least come through with their offer. It's like they changed the contract without telling anyone. I didn't sign up on conditional terms.

Maybe one day I'll put something else up--somewhere else! And I think I'll join an Angelfire-haters webring : )...

By the way, part of the problem might also be this insane b***h I used to know, LM. I'm wondering if she saw my password and thought it would be a good prank. I'm not sure.

So to Angelfire and to any others who might be involved, here's a big
"F**K YOU!!!"

R.I.P., little webpage.

Stephanie (Aah, the irony.)

PS> If you've seen my original index page, remember also these words: NETSCAPE SUCKS BUTT.
That is, for designing webpages.

Previously posted complaints about Netscape--written in 1999, from the likes/dislikes. Take a guess which one:

Netscape Site Central!!! I cannot stress this enough:

DON'T USE IT TO MAKE A WEBPAGE!

Don't even bother, unless you want to spend hours pulling your hair out because it doesn't work correctly! Even if you're already bald, don't use it! The problem, in my case anyway, was that there was not a user error or a system error; it was a NETSCAPE ERROR! Netscape Site Central is SO unreliable! Commands that should take minutes to perform instead take HOURS! Even on a state-of-the-art computer--no joke! What kind of problems did I personally encounter? Below is a letter that I sent to Netscape quite a while ago (and I NEVER received a response in relation to my problems).
Ack!!!! My webpage is driving me CRAZI-ER!!

For example, I would put work up, click finish, and then it would disappear on me, only to reappear at a later time!!! This is EXTREMELY aggravating, especially when you put a lot of work into it. And some things are unrecoverable!

I've had links go to other links that I had not told it to go to and I KNOW I did it correctly because it worked at the time (went to the link that I wanted it to go to)!!

Pictures that I put on the site aren't showing up!

Even when I put less than 6,000 characters in a text box, only a few words out of many show up! Why?!!

I can't cut and paste from Microsoft Word--It shows up in the box (maybe) but not on the webpage!

Sometimes it will tell me that I have no more space left on the page for an image, but when I try again, it lets me! Huh?

Whole pages disappear when I want to edit them, and then they reappear!

Pages that I KNOW I deleted reappear, as well as certain elements on a webpage that I know I deleted!

IT TAKES FOREVER!!! There have been times where it took me less than 15 seconds to get to a site, and within the same session (trying to get to the SAME site), it takes 10 minutes! I sometimes can read a book at my leisure while waiting for the thing to load!

I make changes to a site, save it, and then it stays the same! WHY???

So there you have it. They have nothing but stupid, worthless web tools. Oh, did I mention that my webpage would change BETWEEN MY EDITING SESSIONS?? Yes, it's the phantom webmaster fooling with my page and messing everything up. ARGH!!!

I think I'm done griping for now. Also, sorry if anyone got here by accident!
