Allegheny Tunnel at Gallitzin on a very different day, Sat. Jan. 27,
2001. We got about 8 inches of snow in the Cresson area. It snowed all day
Saturday and often the snow fell horizontally. With the wind chill, it was
very chilly.

Gallitzin Tunnel is East of Cresson. The village has fixed things
up nicely. There is a community
center with water and restrooms and a hobby shop next door. There is an old
Pennsy caboose and a little park and parking spots. Food and gas are also
available there too. This TV train is heading East into the tunnel.

Gallitzin
Several years ago they widened
and lowered the floor on this portal and closed to one on the left so they
could get double stackers through. Shot 10/21/2000.

Gallitzin You will miss a train or two here. The Portage Tunnel is
a little North of here and some trains go through there. I think they are usually
East bound but I'm not sure. A new B and B,
The Tunnel Inn has just opened.
It is EXTREMELY well appointed and serves a continental breakfast. It is
on the right edge of these photos. You can look down on the tracks from their
deck. Even the wives will love it.
