Late at night as I lay awake in bed
A million dark and gloomy thoughts
ramble through my Head.
I remember a time when I thought by now
I would be dead
But, over the years by God's tender hand
I have been solemnly lead
Through stifling hurt, pain, criticism, disappointment and sorrow.
As I have stumbled along the way.
God has always granted me a fresh new tomorrow
I am amazed I made it this far
For so many troubles I seem destined to borrow.
As I lay here in the dark
Remembering the wretched past
It was my heart and soul they did brutalize and attack.
For such a long time I felt like my soul had been ripped out
My faith slipped away
But, I have come to realize
It has been the Lord all along the way
Who has covered my back..
