Lilah's Character Page

All I have up so far is her history -- I'm working on the rest!

Delilah was the typical weyrbrat – trouble causing, mess making, bothersome pest. But how can one blame her? What else would you expect a weyr-raised youngster to do when out from under the watchful eye of her mother? Delilah’s mother was A’wen, the rider of Green Morvyth at Irene Weyrhold. Her father was a brown rider in the Weyrhold, although Delilah’s mother never told her who it was. Her mother never spoke of her father at all in fact, all she knew about him she found out through gossip. Result of a mating flight they told her. But it didn’t matter, she considered her mother’s weyrmate L’nor, the father of her siblings to be her father. L’nor was a blue rider, and his dragon Azrezeth was Deli’s best friend. Well, best friend of the draconic persuasion anyway. As a child, Azrezeth was often Delilah’s nanny and playmate. He would even be seen carrying her off alone on occasion. Most of the time though, L’nor would accompany them. Not that this was a bad thing, for the blue’s rider was nearly as fun as the dragon. Delilah’s many excursions into the Irene wilderness with the Exploration rider L’nor taught her how to map from a young age, and taught her what to look for, and whenever possible she would go along with L’nor on his sweeps.

Now, Delilah’s mother wasn’t quite as fun as L’nor, but she had something he didn’t. A love of runner races. On her 10th turnday A’wen presented Deli with a runner of her own. A racer to be exact. Delilah named the runner Ribbon, after the single silver streak in her other wise pitch-black tail, and when the girl wasn’t with Azrezeth or L’nor, she was with the mare. And although A’wen wouldn’t let Delilah /ride/ the runner in races, she still entered the runner and even won a few times. Delilah was as much a permanent attachment to the runner race stands, as she was to Azrezeth. A’wen and her daughter often had disagreements though. The greenrider being too much of a perfectionist for her fun loving, energetic daughter. Trouble of any kind was bound to cause difficulties between the two, often to be settled by the ever patient L’nor. But nevertheless, Delilah, A’wen, L’nor and her several siblings shared a weyr with little bloodshed.

When Delilah was around 12 turns, she was almost a permanent attachment to L’nor and Azrezeth. She was almost as good at mapping as the blue rider, and had no doubt that that was what she would do when she was a rider. She had no doubt that she would become a rider either. Why would she when she was raised there, with her rider parents and siblings? So she wasn’t a bit surprised when search came around and her darling Azrezeth decided she was a good one to grace the sands. Candidacy proved somewhat troublesome for Deli, all the strict rules making it hard for her to slip away with Azrezeth or even Ribbon. Plus, Delilah never was one for /obeying/ rules, so they were often broken in favor of a runner race, or Exploration sweeps. Which of course landed the candidate in trouble, and made her greenrider mother angry. And once again, L’nor would step in to smooth things out. But although Delilah spent much of her time in punishment, she never once doubted that she would impress. Too a blue just like Azrezeth. So one can imagine her surprise when hatching day came as she was passed over, not just by the blues, but by every color. Utterly dejected, Delilah nearly refused to stay on as a candidate, returning to the comfort of her family’s weyr.

Delilah’s stubborn streak took over though, and before long she was happily – okay, maybe not happily, but at least somewhat contentedly – settled back in the candidate barracks. Once again, a clutch of eggs graced the sands and Deli was once again thrown into a rough schedule of chores, egg touchings, and lessons. When the eggs started to harden, and finally hatched, Delilah was prepared. Although every blue once again passed her over, a brown decided to claim her for his own. And thus Delilah became Lilah, the rider of brown Mizreth.

Weyrlinghood posed even more problems for Delilah and her mother than candidacy did. As soon as the newly bonded pair could fly, they were off on exploration sweeps of their own. Nevermind that she was supposed to stay near the Weyrhold. Lilah could handle the trouble she got into with her weyrlingmasters, but if her perfectionist mother got evolved there was bound to be a mess. Both of them were too stubborn for their own good, often going weeks without speaking. When Lilah graduated into the exploration wing, their arguments became fewer and farther between.

Lilah settled into her new life with relative ease. No more illegal trips to explore or map, all that was part of her job now. Mizreth was her life; the two were together whenever possible. Things went smoothly for a bit, Lilah getting along with everyone including her mother and Wingleader, Lilah was more than happy, and everything was peachy. When Lilah reached about 23 turns, she began to grow bored. Living in one place your whole life, with your family always watching your every move can try anyone’s patience. So the brownrider requested a transfer. Ista was what she asked for. Room to explore, plus a nice warm climate. Can you imagine a Southern bread girl taking off for High Reaches? So she sent her transfer request in, and then waited. Hoping to be accepted into Ista Weyr’s ranks.
