Chapter 7
'Oh no' Kristy gasped to herself as she read the words. She didn't know what to do. 'AJ' she thought. 'He'll help me, Kevin and Him haven't got along since Kev slept with his ex-girlfriend.' She ran back in the house and dialed AJ's cell number.
"Yeah?" Aj said answering his phone.
"AJ, Where is Brian?" she asked frantically.
"Kev brought him out to lunch to apologize".
"Oh no!!"
"What, what's going on?" Aj questioned worriedly. She read the letter that she had read minutes before to AJ. "Oh Shit!!"
"Do you know where they went?"
~*~*~*Meanwhile, Kev and Brian~*~*~*
"B-Rok, I'm real sorry about last night. I guess I'm just afraid she is going to hurt you like Stacy (bri's ex) did." Kev said in Mock sincerity.
"How many times do I have to tell you she's not like that. And... Even if she is, I will take care of that myself if I have to." Brian stated firmly. "She is the one that has been there for me when I had to deal with the people like Stacy."
"I hope you're right, I hope she not like all the others." Deep down Kevin knew she was nothing like all the girls that had broke his and Brian's hearts time after time.
"I'll be back, I am going to go to the bathroom" Brian announced standing from his chair. While he was gone the waitress brought their food to them. 'Perfect' Kevin thought to himself.
"Thank You..." he looked at her name tag, "Crissy" he said with a smile. She gave him a small smile back and turned her back and walked away. Kevin took that time when he knew no one was looking and poured a little capsule of powder onto Brian's plate of food. "Just in Time" he whispered to himself as he saw Bri making his way across the room towards the table.
"Oh good, the food's here I am so hungry". Brian said sitting once again.
"So do you except my apology Cuz?" Kevin asked.
"As long as you promise not to pull anything like last night again, it is forgiven and forgotten." Kevin nodded and shook Brian's hand. They ate the rest of their meal in silence, but in the middle of dessert something happened. Brian's hand shot over his chest and he fell over unconcious. Crissy was at the table next to them and she screamed.
"Oh My God, somebody call an ambulance" she yelled and dropped down next to Brian.
Chapter 8
"Okay everybody! get out of my way! I know CPR...gotta save that man" Crissy hollered at the forming crowd around Brian. She tried her best to revive him get him to wake up. So far with no luck. There was the faint sound of sirens in the backround and loud chattering around her, but Crissy heard nothing, her heart was set on saving Brian and only saving Brian. As the paramedics ran through the doors she was reluctant to pull away, but knew she had to. Kevin stood there silently and watched the event unfold. He decided it would be a little less obvious if he called the guys and let them know.
"Hello" Nick asked answering AJ's ringing phone.
"Nick, it's me Kevin" he said in a frantic voice, "Y'all need to go to the hospital fast, they just took Brian away in an ambulance, something happened."
"What, what happened" Nick asked almost in tears.
"I don't know he just collapsed during lunch, hurry and tell the other guys." Nick hung up the phone and began to cry.
"What happened bro" AJ asked.
"B-Brian, he-he is in the hos-pital" he gasped out.
"What?????" AJ, Kristy, Pamela, and Howie screamed at the same time.
"I know Kevin had something to do with this" Kristy said in Rage.
"Let's not worry about that right now, lets just go see how he is" Howie said wrapping his arm around Kristy in comfort. He knew she was scared, just to proud to cry in front of them. 'I got to remember to talk to her when Brian gets better' he made a mental note to himself. They all got into Aj's car and drove to the hospital in silence.
~*~*~In the waiting room~*~*~*
'If I wasn't a singer I would make a hell of an actor' Kevin thought to himself with a smile. 'Get to the hospital fast' he remembered his words to Nick and laughed.
"Kevin, what the hell happened?" AJ asked.
"I don't know we were just eating dessert and he grabbed his chest and collapsed." He answered shaking his head from side to side, "I'm scared of what happened" he acted again.
"Yeah sure you are, if you are so scared now why did you do it to him." Kristy said under her breath.
"Can we see him?" Nick asked, his eyes red from crying.
"The doctors said they would tell us when we could, they are in with them now".
"Excuse me?" a quiet voice, said from behind AJ. "My name is Crissy, I couldn't help but overhear, I was wondering if you were talking about the man that was taken from the restaurant?" she asked. They nodded. "I just thought I should let you know that I am the one that rode here in the ambulance with him."
"Hi, I am AJ, and this is Howie, Kristy, Nick, and his girlfriend Pamela. Did the paramedics say any thing about what might have happened to Brian?" AJ asked.
"I am not sure, I heard them say it might have to do with his heart" she answered.
"Hello, are you all here for Mr. Littrell?" a voice asked from behind, it was the doctor.
"Yes, yes we are" Kristy answered for the group.
"Well, Is there a Mr. Richardson, Mclean, Carter, Dorough, or a Ms. Caswell here?" the doctor questioned.
"That's us" Howie said pointing around to each of them.
"Then can you excuse us Miss" she said to Crissy.
"Yeah, I'll be over there" she pointed to the corner chair.
"No, she can stay here" Kristy instructed.
"Very well, well I just came out here to inform you that Mr. Littrell is in critical condition. It seems as if...."
Chapter 9
"Well it seems as if someone poisoned him, it usually wouldn't have been this bad, but the poison reacted with the medicine he was taking for his heart. That caused him to have a pretty serious heart attack. He would have been dead if a girl at the restaurant didn't pound on his chest so hard during CPR." the doctor explained. "He is still unconscious and not responding to any of the tests, we don't know if he is going to make it."
"Can we see him?" Kristy asked in a sad voice.
"In a few minutes I will send someone out to tell you where to go. Only one at a time though." the doctor turned around a left.
"Poison, who would want to poison Brian?" Kevin asked innocently. Kristy's head shot up.
"You know you did it, so do we, so stop acting as if you don't know what's going on. You almost killed him, your cousin, your own flesh and blood" Kristy spat out. The guilt finally flooded over Kevin when she finally made it clear to him what he did. He got up and left. "The Girl? The one that gave him CPR? who is she?" she said aloud remembering what the doctor said.
"Umm, that was me." Crissy interupted quietly. Nick ran up to her and gave her a quick hug.
"Thank You" he said.
"Yeah, Thank You so much, I don't know if I will ever be able to pay you back. But if you ever need anything, please tell one of us and we will be sure to help" Kristy insisted.
"You really don't need to thank me or do anything, I was glad to be able to help."
"One of you may go see Mr. Littrell now." a nurse instructed.
"K, Do you want to go in first?" Aj asked.
"Umm, I, No Nick why don't you go first." Nick got up and followed the nurse to room 268. He opened the door and walked over to Brian.
"Hey Frick." Nick said wearily. "You need to wake up Buddy, you're scaring me. I need someone to play N64 with, and we both know AJ and Howie suck." he laughed remembering all the times that played together. "I miss you beating me a B-ball too. So please, please wake up", Nick broke down, he couldn't stand to see his best friend like that, he got up and ran out to the waiting room and strait to Pamela's arms where she did her best to comfort him. Next Howie went in, and after him AJ. Both of them returning soon after crying.
"Kristy, Are you going to go see him?" Howie asked.
"I can't, Not Yet".
"Kristy?" Crissy asked. Kristy looked up "Do you mind if I go see him" Kristy didn't know why she was asking for her permission, but she shook her head no.
"No, I don't mind. Go ahead" she was relieved actually, it gave her more time to think. Crissy proceeded to the same room the others had went to.
"Hi Brian." she said. "Well you don't exactly know me, but I was in the restaurant when everything happened, I performed CPR on you. You need to wake up Bri, you just need to" she found tears in her own eyes, even though she had never met him. "You have all those people out there that love you, especially Kristy. She tries to hide it, but it shows, you mean a lot to her. I wish I had friends like that. Maybe when you get out of this place we can talk sometime. Well I guess that's all I needed to say, Get better fast. Bye". When Kristy saw Crissy walk back out to the waiting room she knew it was her time to go see him. The moments Kristy dreaded were coming fast. As she walked down the endless hall toward Brian's room her heart began to beat faster. She reached the room and with a flick of the wrist opened the door. She made her way toward the bed, but stopped dead in her tracks when his body came into focus in the Dim light. His body was so pale, so lifeless. The glow that always graced his smile was gone, the smile itself was gone. She felt her heart drop and as she placed her hand on his face, the tears finally decided to grace her cheeks, his skin was white and frigid.
"Baby, please wake up, please. Why is Kevin doing all this, What is his problem." she cried harder. "Sorry, it took me so long to come, but I couldn't, I wasn't ready to see you like this. I need you to wake up for me Brian, You can't leave me, you just can't. We just got together, I don't want to lose you already. I love you so much. I don't know what else to say, I don't even know if you can hear me. I love you." She held his hand tightly afraid that if she let go she would lose him, and she sang herself to sleep singing "Don't Want to Lose You Now".
Chapter 10
The next morning Kristy woke up sleeping in the hospital bed next to Brian's, she didn't know how she got there but she didn't really care. As long as she was with Brian, nothing else really mattered. She slowly crawled out of the bed and over to Brian, still lying lifeless.
"Hey Lazy, you've been 'sleeping' for almost 24 hrs. Don't you think its time to wake up. Please?" she begged helplessly. "I need to see that gorgeous smile of yours, and those eyes that make me melt every time you look at me. I Love You...." she let go of his hand kissed him on the cheek and walked to the waiting room. The atmosphere was dark and dreary, Nick was laying in Pamela's lap in the corner, AJ sitting with his head down, and Howie sleeping in another chair. Hearing someone enter the room, AJ looked up.
"Hey!" he said softly seeing that it was Kristy. She just looked at him, Unable to Speak. "Come here" he said standing and pulling her into a warm embrace.
"Oh AJ, what if he doesn't make it, he's too young."
"Ssh, Don't talk like that, we both know that Brian is strong, he'll make it."
"Why didn't Kevin just go after me. I am the one he hates, Brian is his family, his blood, it should have been me." she screamed through her tears, "It should have been me!!" He grabbed her wrists to calm her down, but she fought to twist free.
"Kristy." she turned around and found herself in Howie's arms. AJ stood there not knowing what else to say. His friend was in the hospital, and he wasn't sure if he would survive so he just slouched back into his chair and watched Kristy go sit with Howie. They sat there for the rest of the day, waiting, fearing, and hoping. Wondering what would become of the situation.
When the night finally came, so did visiting hours they all went to see him again, sending their prayers and best wishes to him. Nick was the last to see Brian that night.
"Hey Brian, it's me again. I just wanted to say hello and that I miss you. There's not much to say that hasn't already been said. You don't know how bad it hurts to see you like this bro. Please wake up". While walking out the door, Nick heard a hoarse whisper.
