“Laura? Phone call for ya!” Jessica, my roommate, called from the main room of our dorm.
“Coming!” I called as I picked up the phone. “Hello?”
“Laura Ford?” a voice asked.
“Yes, this is she,” I responded.
“Hello. My name is Johnny Wright, and I’m calling on a recommendation from Mr. Johnson. I am looking for one more dancer for a tour this summer, and your teacher recommended you to me.”
“Oh really? That sounds interesting. What exactly would I be doing on this tour?”
“You would be one of the backup dancers for one of my groups that you’ll meet later on. It’s a three and a half month world wide tour, and everything will be paid for you, as well as receiving $1000 per concert. Are you interested for a tryout? We’ll keep your place until you try out, because you’re our number one choice right now.”
“Sure. A tryout won’t hurt. And it’s something to do for the summer.” I agreed.
“Okay! Well, I will send our choreographer up to you for a tryout, and if we choose you, we’ll send you a ticket for the day of your last exam, so you can come down and catch up with everyone else. Is this weekend a good time for your audition?”
“Sure. Just send her up to the dance studio on Saturday around noon, and I can do my audition and maybe spend some time learning the dances.”
“Okay. I’ll get in touch later. Thank you and good luck!”
“Goodbye!” I said as I hung up the phone.
“Who was that, Laura?” Tamara, another of my roommates, asked.
“A man named Johnny Wright who offered me a summer job. I’d be dancing and touring the world.”
“Sounds awesome! Maybe Jessica, Katie Lee, Claudia, and I will meet you somewhere for a couple of days. It’ll give us a good excuse for a vacation!” she suggested.
“That would be cool! Italy was so awesome for spring break, so maybe we should meet up somewhere in Europe again. Hmm..I’ll have to check on where we’re going, but if we go to Scotland, Ireland, or Austria, we could meet there since we haven’t been there before.”
“Sounds good! Uh-oh! I’m late for class! I better go! See ya later!”
“Bye! I have to go see my parents anyway! Let’s meet up at Hamburger Hamlet at 6:30! Spread the word, we we’ll all be there!”
