Mrs. Bucior (Principal) introduced Sister Eileen Clinton of the Archdiocese of Washington. Sister Eileen covered missions/requirments of the Advisory Board and the Home-School Association which included:--Requirement of the school to have an Advisory Board. The board was formed and meets again September 14th. Summer meetings results in setting up the Board, informing Advisory Board members of their roles and responsibilities, expectations, forming committees, etc. Committees are Planning, Finance, Development & Fundraising Public Relation and Evaluation. Karen Guy is the President of the Advisory Board and members are Msgr. Brady, Fr. Early, Nancy Bucior, Bitsy Bailey, Carole Farr, Glenn Hall, Nancy Hall, Donna Hammett, Dianne White and Margaret Williams.
An important goal of the Board is to work on the Archdioceses' yearly requirement, the 5-year plan for the school.
- Father Brady asked about tuition concern. Sister Eileen gave a brief explanation/suggestion of how she believes this should work and gave suggestions on how to come about with a tuition rate.
-On 29 September there will be a meeting regarding STATE funding for textbooks which the school sends a rep. The amount given to school per child is determined on the survey which went home to parents and she noted it's important that parents return each one of these surveys so funds will be received for each child (this year between $60-$90 per child).
Mrs. Bucior introduced Mr. Fetty, the school basketball coach. discussions regarding basketball and cheerleading included the below:
- Need more players, please sign up students on the sheets at the H.S.A meeting tonight. Mrs. Bucior will pass these sheets around the school for students to sign up. Fourth graders are welcome also! Mrs. Bucior has a tentative schedule; though it may change many times. Practice starts in a few weeks after Mr. Fetty talks with Mr. Sothoron regarding possibility of Dynard School. Season starts the weekend after Thanksgiving.
- Mr. Fetty wanted to thank Howie Guy and Ms. Francisco for volunteering to work with basketball.
- Mark Bailey volunteered to purchase and donate new uniforms and will be working with Mr. Fetty and the uniform supplier to accomplish this when uniform sizes, etc. are known.
- Cindy Guy mentioned the basketball team and cheerleaders are working to combine fundraisers and discussed tentative fundraisers. Currently a carwash is scheduled 9/16/00 at D&G Customs.
Mrs. Bucior introduced the School Faculty. The students drew pictures and supplied comments about their teachers and faculty. A wonderful (comical) slide show was put together from this and presented.
New business (Mrs. Bucior)
- Enrich growth ELMs Environmental Program-Class field trips to one of three places throughout the year. Will send out more information on this.
- Mrs. Millsaps is starting a Science Club for after school. Information will come home soon.
- Encouraging teachers to take more field trips.
- Mrs. Beall's community outreach - 3rd, 4th, 5th graders will go to the Veteran's home and sing and take gifts. Sister Joan will be a part of this.
- Parent Partners has started in the school. Seems to be a success.
- Fisrt Edition of Newsletter went out.
- Buzzin with the Bees- Would like to start this up, have it be a School Newsletter.
- Packets are on table regarding the St. Clement's After-School Program.
- Wednesday, band demo- 4th graders and up. If interested in playing an instrument please sign up.
- Standardized test meeting discussed. 8th grade - Mrs. Maloney getting with parents, etc. to plan field trip. Must plan far ahead.
- Parent folders are working well as a part of increased communication. Many parents are writing back in these folders.
Msgr. Brady gave the Administrator's Report.
- Discussion on the School Addition Dedication, Tuesday, September, Cardinal apperance at 7pm. Some invites have been sent out and invites will go out in Friday folders. Msgr. wanted to thank all whoo assisted: Carole Farr, Bitsy Ellis, Kathy Bailey, Jane Davis, Dick Gass (consulting) and the many others who helped in so many ways. We have a lot to be proud of; we did the impossible. Discussion took place regarding funding the dedication; possibly splitting between the two parishes; H.S.A and Friends who will be contacted.
- Next year will be the schools' 75th Anniversary! We would like to plan something for this.
- Father Brady asked that all start the new school year with a fresh new look and put aside anything that went wrong last year stating we can make this the best school possible. This is what we want for our children. We shall pass faith to our next generation. We have a school to be proud of. Parent participation will benefit our children.
Eleceted as H.S.A Officers were Mr. Glenn Hall (President), Donna Hammett (Secretary) and Lisa Buckler (Treasurer). No objections to the officers were given. Vice-President is still open.
- Paula Gibson, past treasurer, gave the treasurers report. The H.S.A has a current balance of $8,740.89. She turned the books over to Lisa Buckler, the current year Tresurer.
- Glenn Hall, President, H.S.A. thanked all who helped with the school work days over the summer. They included Fr. Brady, Mark Norris and Josh, Donna Hammett and Nicki, Warren Webb and Amy, Chris Bailey, Mac Goode, Jr., Francis Guy, Charles Pilkerton, Howie Guy, Gary Norris, Glenn and Susan Hall, Jessie and Christopher.
Discussions took place regarding fundraisers for the current shcool year.
- It was agreed H.S.A should discontinue small fundraisers and take on the bigger one, especially the bingo, maybe even adding another bingo night if possible. It was noted Basket Bingo and Dinners will be discussed at a later time.
- Carole Farr discussed the Stuffed Ham Booth at the Blessing of the Fleet. Help is still needed for this and a sheet was passed around for ham funds/volunteers. She noted last year 22 to 24 hams were done. Gilbert Murphy assisted with deboning hams, tieing,etc. at no added cost.
- AUCTION-meeting will be held for all interested next Monday night. Frances Guy volunteered to get the raffle tickets made up. Raffle tickets will be $50 each. Paula Gibson, as a reminder, noted the winner will get a 1099 tax form at year-end.
- Discussion took place regarding Casino night which is a big fundraiser. Mark Bailey noted a Casino night is scheduled for Friday, October 20th and help is needed from the parents, the night before and of the Casino. Sign up sheets will be sent home. It was noted funds have not yet been received from FRIENDS for the last Casino night which parents assisted at. This will be checked into.
- Cindy Guy discussed bingo last year - a big successful fundraiser with a great show of parents/workers for the school. Profited $58,000 last year. The current year schedule is out and a reminder to parents, arrival time is 7PM and consistent late arrivers put a overload of work on the other parents. Please try and be on time if at all possible.
The seventh graders won the door prize for the most parent participation at the H.S.A. meeting. Fr. Early lead the closing prayer. The meeting adjourned approximately 9:15 PM.
