Library

Students are given a weekly visit to the school library. We look upon this visit as instructional time and the students are expected to follow the school and class rules while there. If a student fails to exhibit proper behavior or respect, he or she will be asked to leave and will not check out a book. The librarian will set up a demerit/reward system concerning timely book return.

Students are allowed to check out on (1) book per visit and must have returned the book before another can be taken. Because books are so expensive, families will be billed for lost or damaged library books. They will be expected to pay for the entire cost of buying the same book and the student will not be allowed to take out any other book until the payment has been made.

There is a library program on the computer and, once the students have necessary reading skills, they are expected to learn the program in order to find the book they need. We follow the standard procedure for checking out books with each child's name being placed on the card and put in the file. When a student is finished reading his or her book, he or she can bring it back to school and place it in the basket that is in the classroom. We ask that you encourage your child to bring back the book promptly and put it in the basket in the classroom to help avoid lost or 'misplaced' books. No student is allowed to take a reference book home at any time. To view the Library Schedule Click Here.
