A few moments later a doctor came in.
"Now, what's the problem here," the doctor said as he walked in with a chart in his hand.
"She fell out of bed and landed on her arm this morning," Andrew said without hesitation.
"Well let's have a look then," said the doctor coming over to me. "Tell me if this hurts," he said. The doctor began to examine my arm, feeling the bone to tell if it was broken.
"Ow," I said when he touched a point on my arm.
"Ok, we'll take an x-ray to see if it's broken. Follow me and I'll take you to the x-ray room." I began to follow the doctor with Andrew right behind me. "You can wait here, sir."
"Oh," Andrew said, stopping. He seemed a bit upset, but didn't express it. I continued to follow the doctor. He took an x-ray of my arm and said I could go back while he waited for them to develop. I went back to where Andrew was.
"Are you alright?" he asked me.
"I don't know yet. The doctor took an x-ray and now he's waiting for them to develop," I answered him.
After a few minutes, the doctor returned. "It seems that there is no fracture or break. It's just a minor sprain," he said.
"Will she have to wear a cast?" asked Andrew.
"No. She can just wear a sling for a few days and it should be fine. I'll have the nurse give you one. And I'd like it if you'd come in and see me in a few days so I check it again. You can make an appointment at the reception desk." The doctor left leaving the curtain open behind him.
"A sling isn't that bad," I said. Andrew just stood there with a disappointed look on his face. "What's wrong, Andrew?"
"I was hoping that you wouldn't have anything wrong with your arm. But I suppose that a sling is the best thing. At least you don't have to wear a cast," he responded.
"I have your sling," said a nurse walking up to me. She placed my right arm in the sling and put the strap over my shoulder. "There you go. You're all set."
"Thank you," Andrew said, coming over to me and placing his arm around my shoulders. The nurse left. Andrew gathered our things and we walked back out to the reception desk. We signed out and went outside to Andrew's car. He opened the door and helped me in. He walked around the front of the car and got into the driver's side.
"Andrew, could you please take me to my dorm? I have some things to do for tomorrow," I asked him as he started the car.
"Alright," he answered. He drove to my dorm. When we arrived there he turned off the car and got out. Surprisingly, he helped me out of the car and walked me to my room.
"I'll call you later, when I'm done. It shouldn't be too long," I said when we reached my door.
"Ok, I'll wait by the phone every minute."
I smiled.
"I love you. You know that, right?"
"Yeah, I know. And I love you, too."
He softly kissed my lips. Then he kissed my left hand. "I'll talk to you later then?"
"Yeah, later."
He walked down the hall and I watched him walk out the door. I turned around and opened my dorm door and walked in. My dormmate wasn't there. She must have been out with her boyfriend. I closed the door behind me and took off my jacket. I walked over to my bed and put my things down on it. Then there was a knock on the door. I walked over to the door and opened it to see Brian.
"Hey Brian," I said when the door was open slightly. I didn't open it all the way. I stood slightly behind it to hide my arm in the sling.
"Hey Amanda. Ya wanna get some lunch?" he asked.
I hesitated and looked down at my right arm. "Um...I guess. Come in and I'll get my things," I responded slowly. I opened the door all the way and let Brian in. Once he was in, I closed the door.
He immediately noticed my arm and asked, "What's wrong with your arm?"
At first I gave him a confused look.
"The sling..."
"Oh, this. It's just a minor sprain."
"How'd you do it?"
"I fell out of bed."
"Did you have it checked out?"
"Yeah. The doctor said I would only have to wear the sling for a few days. Don't worry, Brian. I'll be fine. Man, you guys worry about me too much. Let's just go get some lunch, ok?"
"Alright. If that's what you want to do."
We went to the student cafeteria and got some lunch. We talked about just about everything. He brought up the subject of Andrew's and mine relationship, but I just changed the subject. I wasn't very much in the mood to discuss Andrew at the moment. I was just having fun spending time with Brian, something that I haven't been able to do in awhile.
