Contact: davidbernhardt@rogers.comGeorge Wilkins, born in the area of Sligo, Ireland about 1810, came out to Minto township in Ontario about 1850. He was later joined by his brother Richard and sister Elizabeth. His sister Hannah remained in Ireland and married Robert Lindsay. George brought his wife, Jane Roberts, and his children, Fanny [born c1834, married John Brown], Lewis [born 1835, married Mary Shaw], Timothy [born Nov 1837, married Mary Ross, Richard (born 1840, married Sarah Metcalfe], Mary Jane [born 1844, married John Campbell] and Alice [born 1851, married her cousin George Wilkins] with him. A final son George was born in Ontario [Mar 10, 1853, married Mary Campbell]. The family changed the spelling of the name to Wilkin around 1890.
Richard Wilkins was born in Ireland in 1812 and came out to Canada in 1858. He married Margaret Morrison in 1842 and they had the following children George [born Feb 18, 1844, married his cousin Alice Wilkins], Robert [born Aug 1, 1847, married Hannah Demmans and Elizabeth Ducklow], Mary Ann Wilkins [born Sep 15, 1849], Lewis Wilkins [born Jan 28, 1851, married Frances Susan Roe], William [born Apr 28, 1853, married Mary Whaley], Catharine (born Mar 12, 1856, married William Row], Richard [born July 18, 1858 in Ontario, married Lucinda Erwin and Agnes Murdoch], Margaret Jane [born Oct 28, 1860, married Adam Spence], Hannah [born Sep 13, 1864, married James Shaw], and Elizabeth [born Jul 11, 1866, married Alfred Cushing].
Hannah Wilkins was born in Ireland about 1819 and married Robert Lindsay there. They are both buried in Ireland. Two of their sons, Richard and Lewis, settled in New Jersey. The third son John, born about 1851 remained in Ireland.
Elizabeth Wilkins was born in Ireland in 1826 and was married to Harper and John Miller. She had four children Annie Harper [born 1858], James Harper [born 1864], William Harper and Jane Harper. They all died in Canada,
