Well, people have been asking me questions about myself, so I figured I'd finally put a page online that would explain a few of my interests. But that's pretty much all you'll get out of me. No pictures (I wouldn't want to scare any of you off ;), though I may throw in a couple digital camera shots of various items. Like my ever-growing toy collection, for example. Anyway, I decided to make this page based on one of those surveys that always seems to be forwarded to everyone's e-mail addresses. I omitted the questions that I didn't feel like answering, or the ones that were just plain stupid. Anyway, enjoy...

NAME:

Leanne Shaw

NICK NAME(S):

Stratos, Stratos McCartney, stratosmacca, Lee Lee (don't ask)

SEX:

Female

BIRTHDATE:

June 10, 1980

HOMETOWN:

Bryantown, Maryland.

LOCATION:

Lynchburg, Virginia.

WHAT THE HELL'S A "STRATOSMACCA"?:

I get this question a lot. For those of you who don't know, I use the nickname "stratosmacca" for just about everything-- e-mail addresses, website names, etc. When broken up into two words, "Stratos" and "Macca," you'll find the meaning. Stratos is the name of my favorite character from the '80s cartoon He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. "Macca" is short for "McCartney," and was Paul's nickname during his career with The Beatles. So basically, I'm combining one of my favorite cartoon characters with one of my favorite musicians. No biggie :)

FAV BAND(S):

My favorite band of all time is The Beatles. I can't stress enough how truly excellent these guys are... I also have four other favorite groups that I listen to on a regular basis. Combined with the Fab Four, I call them my "Core Five": Queen, Rammstein (my favorite band that is currently making music in the industry), Foo Fighters, and Nirvana.

I also like Paul McCartney (my favorite musician of all time), Roy Orbison, Tadpole, Metallica, VAST, Amorphis, The Vines, The Hives, Creedence Clearwater Revival, old-school Phil Collins, Will Smith, Jimi Hendrix, Simon & Garfunkel, godhead, Loaded Younx, Ray Charles, Sublime, Ozzy Osborne, Billy Joel, Steppenwolf, Chuck Berry, SilverChair, old-school Good Charlotte, The Cars, John Lennon, old-school Korn, George Harrison, Aerosmith, Buddy Holly, and others I can't think of at the moment ;)

BANDS/ARTISTS I CAN'T STAND:

Oasis (or as I like to call them, "Blow-asis"), The Beastie Boys, Limp Bizkit, Kid Rock, Lit, Insane Clown Posse, Creed, Everlast, Everclear, any one of the New Kids on the Block clone groups, Britney Spears (and any of her clones), Elvis Presley, Bob Dylan (some of his songs are good-- great, even-- but they are much better when others sing them), Bruce Springsteen...

FAV MOVIE:

My favorite movie of all time is The Silence of the Lambs. If you haven't seen it yet, do it. You shan't be disappointed. After all, it didn't win five Oscars for nothing, you know! (Incidentally, those five Oscars were won in all the important categories-- Best Actress, Best Actor, Best Director, Best Screenplay and Best Picture).

I also like One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Braveheart, Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, Ghostbusters, Big Trouble in Little China, Shrek, The Patriot (the one starring Mel Gibson, that is), American Beauty, Freeway, PSYCHO! (the original version ), The Shawshank Redemption, the Star Wars trilogy, any Raul Julia movie, Kevin Smith movie (ie. Mallrats, Dogma, Clerks), or Beatles movie.

FAV DISNEY (ANIMATED) MOVIES:

Robin Hood, Sleeping Beauty, Aladdin and Hercules.

FAV ANIME FILM:

Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust. This is an easy one for me to answer. This film has the best animation and the most powerful story I've seen in any anime I've come across. I doubt anything can top it.

If there was a category on here for my favorite animated film of all time, this would fit into the slot too.

FAV DRINK:

Iced tea. Yeah, it's a boring drink and all, so sue me. If I didn't drink iced tea, I'd be drinking water. I'm not a very exciting person when it comes to drinks.

FAV RADIO STATIONS:

I hardly ever listen to the radio. Let me put this into perspective for you-- in my car, the radio stations I have set up are all classic rock and oldies stations, save one, which is a current rock station (and probably the station I listen to the least). As far as specific stations go, when I'm in Maryland, I tend to favor 98 ROCK when I'm in Baltimore and 98.3 STAR FM when I'm back home in Bryantown.

FAV GHOSTBUSTER:

Dr. Egon Spengler-- he's a kool kat.

FAV TV SHOW(S):

HBO's The Sopranos, Dennis Miller Live, Oz, Six Feet Under and Sex and the City; '80s cartoons; Power Rangers; Monty Python's Flying Circus; old Match Game episodes; Batman: The Animated Series; Batman Beyond; Whose Line is it Anyway?; Night Court; Swamp Fox; Dragonball; DragonBall Z; Iron Chef; Gilligan's Island; Junkyard Wars; Are You Being Served?; Fawlty Towers; Father Ted; Doctor Who; Red Dwarf; Boston Public; Birds of Prey; The Practice; just about everything on the History Channel; CSI: Crime Scene Investigation; Star Trek: The Next Generation; The Three Stooges; Late Night with Conan O'Brien; The Late Show with David Letterman.

FAV POWER RANGERS SERIES:

Yes, I'm a huge fan of Japanese Sentai shows as well as their American counterparts, better known as Power Rangers. Now, before you laugh at the fact that I watch these shows, you should try watching them before wanting to knock me down a few pegs. Sure, some of the series are hit-and-miss, but they've come a long way from the first season of the show that started it all off (better known to the general public as Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers). Go HERE to see a list of my favorite Power Rangers series, and explanations as to why I put them in those positions.

FAV '80s CARTOONS:

I'm a huge fan of cartoons made during the 1980s, when I was growing up. Here is a short list of my favorites (yes, they are in order, beginning with my absolute favorite). As I re-expose myself to more cartoons, this list will surely grow (the only reason Transformers isn't on the list is because I haven't re-watched any of the series' episodes yet-- but give it time ;).

1.) G.I. Joe (Sunbow's first season)
2.) Visionaries
3.) He-man and the Masters of the Universe
4.) Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
5.) The Real Ghostbusters
6.) ThunderCats

FAV VOICE ACTOR:

Of all time? Christopher Latta, hands down. He voiced some of the most memorable cartoon characters of the 1980s. Examples: Cobra Commander, Gung-Ho, Breaker and Steeler from GI Joe; Starscream from Transformers; Cravex and Darkstorm from Visionaries. And this short list doesn't even begin to touch half of what he did throughout his short voice acting career. He did such over-the-top voice work, and pumped so much emotion and life into his characters, it's uncanny. I never get tired of listening to this man's voice.

My favorite voice actor still doing work today would have to be Mark Hamill. Yes, that same guy who played the whiny, bratty Luke Skywalker in the original Star Wars trilogy. One only needs to listen to his portrayal of the Joker in the Batman: The Animated Series cartoon to see why. He oozes the same raw, powerful energy that Chris Latta was known for, and does the most wicked, psychotic laugh I've ever heard. He captures the Joker perfectly.

Other voice actors I admire are Frank Welker, Neil Ross, Alan Oppenheimer, Mary McDonald-Lewis, Michael Bell, Lorenzo Music, and... what the hell-- I'll throw Christopher Sabat in there, because he does have pretty good range with his voice, and can do multiple characters/voices per episode. Besides, I've grown so used to his voice for DragonBall Z's Vegeta, I'd rather not see it change :-/

RIGHTY, LEFTY, OR AMBIDEXTROUS:

Lefty and proud! :)

FAV TOY:

My stuffed animal Hippo. I've had him since I was two years old.

I have an extensive action figure collection as well. The pride and joy of my collection, however, is my straight-arm Cobra Commander v1 figure and my hooded Cobra Commander v2 figure, pictured here. Here are some other shots of just a small bit of the rest of my collection, mainly the classic Masters of the Universe stuff I own:

FAV ACTOR(S):

My favorite actor of all time is Raul Julia, and my second favorite actor of all time is Anthony Hopkins.

I also like Jack Nicholson, Harrison Ford, Kevin Spacey, James Woods, William H. Macy, James Gandolfini, Brent Spiner, Samuel L. Jackson and Mel Gibson (mrrrrow! ;)

FAV ACTRESS(ES):

Jodie Foster, Sarah Jessica Parker, Janeane Garofalo, Reese Witherspoon, and Edie Falco.

FAV SPORTS:

I love baseball, my favorite team being the Baltimore Orioles. My favorite baseball player is Rafael Palmeiro. My favorite football team is the Baltimore Ravens, who kicked much tail during the '00 superbowl.

I also follow NASCAR on occasion; my favorite driver is Ward Burton, driver of the #22 CAT car.

FAV LINKS:

I have way too many favorite links out there on the 'net, so I made a separate page to list them all. Click HERE and enjoy!

IF YOU COULD MEET ANYONE IN THE WORLD, ALIVE OR DEAD, WHO WOULD IT BE?:

Most definitely Paul McCartney. Words cannot express how much I admire that man! If not Paul, then John Lennon.

IF YOU COULD MEET ANY FIVE FICTIONAL CHARACTERS, WHO WOULD THEY BE?:

1.) Cobra Commander (G.I. Joe)
2.) One-Eye (ElfQuest)
3.) Robin, aka Tim Drake (DC Comics)
4.) Data (Star Trek: The Next Generation)
5.) Simon (Lord of the Flies)

WEIRD HABITS OR WEIRD THINGS ABOUT YOU:

Well, I'm a big fan of American history when it comes to certain aspects of the American Revolutionary War, especially when it concerns Francis Marion and Banastre Tarleton. Tarleton has slowly but surely caught my attention more so than Marion. Everything about the guy is fascinating, and thanks to Jason Isaacs' brilliant portrayal of Colonel Tavington-- a character loosely based on Ban-- in the movie The Patriot, I hope more people will become interested in him as well. My younger sister thinks I'm weird for reading books about all this stuff, but hell, it's interesting to me!

I'm a very modest person. You'll never ever hear me brag about anything I do; it's very taboo with me.

I know quite a bit about the Beatles. History, music, personalities... Things like that. But you'll never hear me call myself an "expert"; I'm still learning more about them all the time. I just happen to probably know more than the average person, is all.

Now, I personally don't think this is weird, but some people think it's strange that I, a female, collects comic books and action figures. I've been reading comics since I was in Elementary school and I haven't stopped since. I very much want to be a part of the comics industry one day, either penciling and/or inking. I'm constantly practicing, so perhaps one day you'll see my stuff in the pages of a genuine comic. But I'm not holding my breath... For now, though, I'm currently the editor for MVCreations, those fine folks who bring you the new Masters of the Universe comic book series.

5.) Batman: Gotham Knights (DC)

INSPIRATIONS:

I have many inspirations for various things... My parents have always been big inspirations to me. The Beatles also inspired me in many many ways, as did Paul McCartney and John Lennon separately.

As for art, I am truly amazed and inspired by the work of the Renaissance artists, particularly Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo. I am studying their artwork more and more these days; I owe that to a great Art History teacher that I had in my second year in college. She made me realize just how incredibly important these guys are. (Btw, did I mention that Leonardo and Michelangelo were both left-handed?). Other artists that also never cease to inspire in some way-- Raphael, Jan Van Eyck, Albrecht Dürer, Giotto di Bondone, Donatello, Masaccio, Sandro Botticelli, Titian, Caravaggio, Peter Paul Rubens, Rembrandt van Rijn, Jacques Louis David, Hans Holbein and Vincent Van Gogh.

As for comic book art, big inspirations have been Wendy Pini (from whose work I learned to focus on individual features for my characters, not to mention for showing me that women can go far and kick serious arse in drawing comics), Mike Wieringo (whose line work and characters just flow beautifully and are full of motion and expression), and Tom Grummett (from whose work I learned the differences between drawing adults and teenagers-- this guy is the best when it comes to this!). Other comic artists that continue to inspire-- Brian Bolland, Steve Dillon, Alan Davis, Neal Adams, Alex Ross and Bruce Timm.

BEST ADVICE YOU COULD GIVE SOMEONE:

A simple quote I once read: "If your mind isn't open, keep your mouth shut too."
