The St. Patrick's Society of Selangor has been active in
Malaysia from its foundation on May 16 1925. Since then we have grown in number
from a few members to our current membership of over three hundred families, and
we continue to grow. Traditionally the principal aim of the Society has been to
organise an annual celebration of the feast of St. Patrick.
In addition, the Society has become a centre for social
activities and support, throughout the year, for the Irish community living in
Malaysia. The Society is managed by a committee composed of the President,
Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, and seven ordinary members, elected at the
Annual General Meeting, and in addition, all past Presidents of the Society
while resident in Malaysia. When necessary, the committee co-opts other members
to help with the running of the Society's many activities. A major item is the
monthly Newsletter, which is produced by an editorial team of seven.
Other activities include Hooleys, Pub Nights,
Inter-Society quizzes, golf and football. During the run-up to the annual Ball,
Irish dancing practice reaches fever pitch. We have three "Link
Ladies/Lads" who arrange for newcomers to Malaysia to meet existing Society
members, and to attend Society functions.
Further details can be obtained by e-mail to stpatricks.
Should you wish to join the society, you can use our on-line
application form or alternatively you can download
a copy to fill it out at your leisure. The Society is further supported by
the Irish Embassy, located at Ireland House, The Amp Walk, Jalan Ampang, Kuala
Lumpur. The Ambassador
is supported by an excellent team who can provide advice and assistance with
passports and other matters.
