SENSER
Some of you may remember this English industrial/hip-hop band from
their plethora of singles (The Key, Eject, and Switch)
and their domestic full length, Stacked Up. Well, two
years later, they’ve returned, on a new label and with a new single, Charming
Demons. Gone are most of their electro elements and their
sound has morphed into a more straight forward yet toned down, Rage
Against the Machine type semi-metal, hip-hop sound. The overall
feel of Charming Demons seems to be more commercial orientated due to its
toned down female vocals, mid-paced hip-hop beat and semi-rapped female
vocals. There are 4 mixes of Charming Demons (not including the original
version.) There seems to be little diversity between the different
mixes. I was especially disappointed in Adrian Sherwood and Skip
McDonald’s weak Keep on Dreaming Vocal Mix. They add a few electronic
elements, which makes the music seem like a bland interpretation Single
Gun Theory. The DJ Awe Mix adds a few alien synth sounds
and a deep, dropping bass, but the track still remains mediocre at best.
Just because you may have enjoyed Senser’s earlier work, don’t
expect the same intensity and power on this new single.
Senser is:
Kerstin Haigh / James Barrett /
Nick Michaelson
