The Chapter started the year 2002 with AOC Bob Mravec graciously agreeing to continue serving as our Chapter President for another term. AO2 Heather Belanger was elected as our Secretary/Treasurer. AOC Mike Bruns and John Cooley (AO2 Fmr) were both elected to the Board of Directors, to fill the position vacated by AO2 Heather Belanger, and to replace Bud Clark (CWO3 Ret) who served faithfully on the Board and previously as our Chapter 22 President for a number of years. AO1 Tom Wheelock was elected as our Chapter 22 Vice President replacing Russell Zachary (Fmr AO1), who faithfully served for two terms.
Chapter 22 formulated a Convention Support Committee to assist Chapter 4 as they host the convention 17 to 20 October in Virgina Beach. The committee has started a raffle for an Ammo Can with "Secret" contents. Funds generated will be used to enhance the convention. Please support this effort, as you will enjoy the benefits of your contribution, and the secret prizes within the Ammo Can are well worth the ticket purchase price.
The John Finn ship naming committee continues to collect specific information about John Finn for a formal package submission. As you should know, the Secretary of the Navy relies on many sources to help him reach his decisions. Our committee letters to specific politicians and Veterans Organizations has produced a variety of response letters. The Secretary of the Navy responds to every letter, promising to give every consideration to our request. Please keep sending those letters. The Chapter ship naming committee is devoted to this effort. We continue to encourage everyone to send a letter to the Secretary of the Navy. Chapter 22 hopes that all Association members will help and support our efforts. The committee produced a standard letter for individual submission to the Secretary of the Navy. At the time of our initial circulation of the standard letter we attempted to this information available to all Chapter members. If you need a copy of a standard letter, contact any of our Chapter 22 members. Please distribute copies of the letter for signature and have the individual mail it directly to the Secretary of the Navy. Feel free to make changes or additions to the letter. As always we are open to any suggestions or help.
