Mungojerrie

About the Character-
Mungojerrie is Rumpelteazer’s partner in crime. Together, they work for Macavity, stealing and cheating others out of their valuables. Sometimes, they even break a vase or two along the way! Unlike Macavity, Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer are welcome in the Jellicle Tribe. Sometimes the Jellicles are annoyed by their thefts, but generally they are well-liked. The two are thought to be mates, friends, or brother and sister- I believe them to be the latter of the three, but there is no clear answer. Mungojerrie’s fur is creme, yellow, and dark-orange striped. In addition to the normal Cat outfit, Mungo also wears a vest during his song. Originally, Mr. Mistoffelees sang ‘Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer,’ while the two Cats wore clown outfits and danced around! Now, it is their own number- Sung and danced as a duet between them. Mungojerrie is of average-tall height, with a medium to heavy build. Mungo’s age is probably the equivalent of 18 to 25 human years.

About the Actor-
The actor who plays Mungojerrie must be very athletic and have a wonderful sense of humor. The choreography in ‘Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer’ is better performed if the actor has training in gymnastics, and can easily do jump-splits. The actor’s voice should be tenor, and very strong considering how strenuous his dance is. He should have a strong background in dance. Mungojerrie, as well as Rumpleteazer, is one of the funniest roles in the musical, so stage presense is a must!
