This is the #forest FAQ joint-authored by the members of #forest updated last on 7/14/2000. Please do not distribute without permission of the authors in advance. Q: What is #forest? A: #forest is a lycanthrope-oriented (but not exclusively lycanthropic) irc channel for discussion of personal philosophy, social activity, playing around, and pretty much whatever else occurs to our heads at the time. Q: What does lycanthrope-oriented mean? A: It means that there are far more appropriate, and well developed places for cute furry activities. #Forest is for lycanthropy and the discussion of same. Public locations for discourse about lycanthropic topics are rare, and should be valued accordingly. Q: What is irc? A: Go to www.irchelp.org to find out. Q: How old is #forest? A: #forest was first created in the fall of 1995 as an alternative channel to #ahww by Grendel (grendel@lycanthrope.org). With the progression of time, continuing degeneration of ahww as a group, and harassment of individuals for exercising their freedom of choice, #forest was eventually moved off of whatever 'official' ahww server was in use. It's current location is intended to be more stable and permanent. Q: What does 'Klaatu Barata Nikto' mean? A: 'Klaatu Barata Nikto' are the only three words spoken by the giant robot that emerged from the alien ship in the movie _The Day The Earth Stood Still_. They are alleged to mean "I bring you peace." They are also from the movie _Army of Darkness_ by Sam Raimi, in which Ashe, the main character, needs to speak them with the proper pronunciation in order to remove the Necronomicon from it's perch. Good film. :) Q: Is it true that there are no vamps, 'shapestealers', were-aliens, so on, in #forest? A: Yes. Next question. Q: When is #forest most active? A: #forest is most occupied between the hours of 5 PM (Eastern) to 5 AM (Eastern). During the morning and afternoon it is least likely to have anyone present. Weekends are a free for all. Q: How can I reach #forest? A: Send an email explaining: Why you're interested in joining #forest, What lycanthropy means to you, How it affects your life, And what other resources (online or RL) you have investigated to any/all of the following: Grendel (grendel@lycanthrope.org) Werewolf (wolfthewerewolf@yahoo.com) Mudge Wolf (mudgewolf@yahoo.com) Hope to see you among the trees.
