Any athlete of great skill knows what the zone is. It is the center of the physical being where they can tap into their power and skill. It is the place in the mind where the practiced skill of the unconscious unites with the force of will of the conscious. It is the ability to tap into the heart of one’s spirit and make their internal vision reality.
For the wielders of magic there is a similar zone. It is where the knowledge of our teachers have become our knowledge. It is where the truth of the elements have become our truths. It is where the heart of magic has become our hearts. When you feel the magic coursing through your veins, when you know --truly know-- that magic is real and that you can mold the world with it, when the balance of karma unites with your will and desire, then you are in the zone of magic.
Like the star athletes, before you can make use of the zone you must study and practice. You have to change yourself before you can change the world. Nothing can replace this basic truth. However, once you are armed with those things, then you are ready to enter the zone.
Getting in the zone in a personal and inner journey. Some may meditate, listen to music that invokes deep emotions or even watch a movie or read a book that transports the mind to thoughts of magic. I find that watching witches and magic users, even fictitious ones portrayed by actors, helps me get in the zone.

The wizards and elves of Lord of the Rings depict the wonders of magic in their most powerful forms. Theirs is a level all witches can aspire to. This is also where the background image came from.

The almost comic book powers of the three sister witches of Charmed are wonderfully inspiring to watch, but it is their faith and skill in spellcasting that touches my heart.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Willow’s journey through the series, growing more skilled and confident, is a parallel to the one all witches make.
