About two years ago I was having a terrible, stressful life. Every time I thought I was getting on top of things something else would happen to knock me back down. I'd asked myself, "What more could possibly go wrong?"
I wasn't new to New Age concepts, so I began to wonder if maybe there was some karma or past life complications interfering with my present life. I meditated on it, I tried past life regressions, I consulted my spirit guides--nothing. Things continued to get worse and I'd asked myself, "What more could possibly go wrong?"
Maybe I was coming at it from the wrong angle. Maybe there was some spiritual lesson I was supposed to learn. Could this be a test of my patience, my forgiveness, my tolerance? I meditated on it, I grit my teeth and forgave the people ruining my life, I consulted my spirit guides--nothing. Things continued to get worse and I'd asked myself, "What more could possibly go wrong?"
I had recently begun studying wiccan texts, and I consulted them. I cast spells for prosperity and protection. At first they seemed to work, but gradually they broke down and things continued to get worse. I tried a spell to break my enemy's power to harm me, and learned first hand about the three-fold return rule. (Read the story Boomerang, the dream sequence is based in reality.) I meditated on it, cast daily protection spells, I consulted my spirit guides and the Goddess--nothing. Things continued to get worse and I'd asked myself, "What more could possibly go wrong?"
Then I realized my problem. I kept asking, "What more can go wrong?" I kept challenging the universe to top itself in new and creatively disastrous ways. Having tried everything else, I tried changing my outlook. I wrote "What more can go right?" on a note and place it where I would glance at it often. I figured if nothing else, it would force me to start looking on the bright side.
When something small went right, I would smile and ask again, "What more can go right?" More and bigger things started going right and I grew more enthusiastic when I asked "What more could go right?" I continue to challenge the forces of the universe to top themselves in better and more creative ways, and I am continually amazed by the wondrous gifts in my life. Try it for yourself. You never know who's listening when you are talking to yourself, so think carefully.
