"Damn her."

"Excuse me?"

"I said, damn her. For everything she's done."

"Who?"

"The damn Slayer. And damn him, too."

"Oh." There was a pause. "Why?" The question caught the vampires attention, and held it.

"You sure you want to know?"

The human nodded. "Tell me your story."

"Well, it all began the day he came to town..."

We'd been together, a couple. And then... He had Dru. Why'd he want her? She was mine, all mine. Her beautiful warmth, her sharp wit, her lovely body...all mine. But he wanted it. I could tell, being his sire and all.

When I lost my soul, he saw his chance. He made a pact with her. And she agreed. She later reasoned it was for my own good. I was trying to suck the world into Hell at the time. And he wanted Dru, who I had conveniently taken from him. If I hadn't done that, she'd still be mine.

But, I digress. Anyways, it was then that he showed he could walk. And he went away with Dru, I went to Hell, and she ran away. And...and then, each of us started coming back. First her, then me, then him, and finally Dru. When Dru came back, she was back to manipulating him, and I think it finally got through his thick skull. Around the same time, I decided it was better to leave Sunnydale, and leave her. Biggest mistake of my life.

I know there's a quote, one that perfectly describes they way they were towards each other. It's from Practical Magic...though nothing was practical about this situation. Now, how did it go? Oh, yes. I remember. "The moon is always jealous of the heat of the day, just as the sun always longs for something dark and deep." And he was jealous of her, but he loved her. And she wanted something dark.

She wanted him.
