The Dream
This is my Gallery of Gene Dreams.
Gene is a 15 1/2" fashion doll created by artist Mel Odem and the
Ashton-Drake Galleries. She first appeared in 1996 and is available
in burnette, auburn and blonde dolls. The first three dolls were Premiere,
Red Venus and Monaco. Gene was created to be the all American Girl in Golden
Age of Hollywood. Gene dolls come dressed in glamorous clothes. She
has her own wardrobe that comes complete with gloves, purses, hats, jewelry,
and shoes. Each doll and outfit has a story, normally a movie role that
Gene stars in. Other featured outfits are fashions a star would wear for public appearances. This
adds to Gene appeal. Gene and her clothing are all well made items
and the prices are kept modest so she can fit most any budget. Though Gene
has been on the market only for a few years, she is quickly becoming stiff
competition for other well know fashion dolls. I own several of the Gene
Dolls. My first purchase was Red Venus. I purchased her mainly because
of her auburn hair and the red gown. Like all Gene's clothing this one has
a story. It's from her first move role where she plays a gangster's
girlfriend. I am a Barbie collector and thought this one be my only
Gene doll, and it was till the brochures for Blue Goddess came, I thought
she would look nice next to Red Venus so I purchase her too. When this
doll arrived, I thought she look 100% nicer than the photos of her.
This is all it took and I'm a big Gene fan. I still collect Barbie
but Gene is edging her over to the left a little bit every time I purchase
her. The doll picture above is Gene in Ice Coffee. She is my favorite so
far, with blue Goddess a close second.
