Country Graphic Welcome

Welcome to Dot's Genealogy Place, your source for census and genealogy information about North Carolina. I want to make sure you know that Dot's Genealogy Place will be moving to a new address with no pop-up ads in the next month or so. A link will be placed on this page to lead you to the new address when the time comes.

This site contains the complete 1860 Federal Census for Wayne County, N.C., as well as links to U.S. census web sites for every county of North Carolina, some with the actual census available online. You will also find general census information, how to find ancestors who lived in the United States but were not counted on the census, such as African-Americans and Native Americans, and more.

There are many reasons why people do genealogy research.  Some of us just want to know more about our ancestors, some have religious reasons, some help others do research, but we're all detectives.  Whatever the reason we do genealogy, it helps if we love a good mystery, because that's generally what we start with.  We seek information near and far, poring over old books and microfilms, searching through bits of stuff for clues, piecing together facts and family legends, and finally, after much blood (figuratively speaking), sweat, and tears, plus the occasional middle-of-the-night inspiration, we find the answer, only to be faced with a new mystery.  This site is dedicated to helping you obtain more clues in your hunt to solve your own personal genealogy mystery.  Happy sleuthing!

Flower pot Cyndi's List

The biggest and best genealogy site I've ever seen, and constantly growing.  It is beautifully organized into categories so that you can go directly to sites that offer just what you're looking for.

Flower pot Treasure Maps

This how-to site helps you get started in genealogy. You can begin by taking the tutorial on how to use the LDS Family History Center nearest you.  (Since the Family History Centers are not online, you will eventually have to stop being a "mouse potato" and actually go there, but this way you can be prepared first.)
