The Grasslands Biome

Hi! My name is ******. I am doing research on grasslands. I wanted to know about grasslands for my science class.

Some grassland areas are in America and in other countries, including the Great Plains of North America, the Pampas of South America, the Veldt of South Africa, and the Steppes of Central Eurasia. The Great Plains of North America include grassland areas in South Dakota, Montana, Canada, and Kansas.

Plants are the largest group of living things in the grasslands. Common plants of the grasslands are Palms, Common Pincushion Cactus, Butterfly Milkvetch, Indigobush Amorpha, Leadplant and Sunflowers. I like the Common Pincusion Cactus. It is popular in North Dakota.

There are many animals that live there, too. The Bobolink is a small bird who lives in this biome with elephants, giraffes, prairie chickens (which are small with many colorful feathers), lamas (a typical species being the black karbaan), blue cranes, deer, coyotes, rabbits, squirrels, and owls.

The Mustard White is a type of butterfly, Their habitat is the grassland. European Cabbage Butterfly is another butterfly. Their habitats are in gardens and along roadsides in agricultural areas.

Grassland covers about 31,000 acres in the Western Hemisphere. In Texas, there are 500 acres. The climate in grassland areas is warm and cold. The grasslands have four seasons. It rains mostly in the spring. Grassland places have some rainfall. It gets between 25cm and 75cm of rainfall. It gets rainfall often so the grass tends to grow long because of the good soil.
