BA (Hons) Textile Marketing
The four-year course, including one year spent in industry, combined marketing theory and practice with a technical subject - Textiles - and a modern language - French or German. Components of the course included:
Economics Statistics Accounting Marketing Theory Marketing Strategy Textiles Technology & Testing Textile Design & Trends Modern Languages Textiles Testing Research Project Textile Marketing Dissertation.
In obtaining an upper second class honours degree, I completed a dissertation on The Marketing of Needlecraft Kits (with the active assistance of Wm Briggs & Co Ltd) and a textiles testing project on The Performance of Carpets with Varying Types of Underlay (with the active assistance of Duralay Ltd). I took the German language study option and was allowed to miss the year in Industry (progressing directly from year two to year four) in recognition of my mature student status and previous experience in industry. The course is held in high esteem by professional bodies. A second class honours degree or higher was considered sufficient in the education/training requirements of membership applications to the Chartered Institute of Marketing and the Textile Institute.
