How To: SRT8 Rear Diffuser Panel Install

OK well today was one of those times where the lesson: "When theres a will, theres a way" butted heads with the saying "Most Stealerships will rape you with a sandpaper condom"...

The part numbers listed above ARE THE CORRECT SPRING CLIPS TO INSTALL THE REAR DIFFUSER.

Best of all, i just got back (ya, at 3 am...) from installing mine at the local grocery store parking lot.... lighted area.

To start this was done on the SXT bumper, which is basically the same as any NON-SRT bumper.... so R/T's, Daytonas, SE's, SXT's.... this is mostly a cut the slots and bolt it on mod...

one method used so far was drilling on the LX forums...

manris used adhesive a few days ago...

i figured, to try another method and see if i could go the stock mounting ways...

Front bumper Bumper and components Cover Clip Clip Back

the part number for the clips are 4806226AA

as listed above.
NOW HERES THE SANDPAPER CONDOM...... These clips retail for 7.95 PER!!!!!

LIST is 4.95! the discount place i went through got em for 3.50 PER.... but neither place had FULL the amount i needed. so i paid 26$ for 5 at one dealership....(paid full list there) then went through the local shop i get parts at with discount and got 8 more for 26$. so roughly 52$ for 13 of these measly piss ant of a set of a clips... good thing i had 2 shows this weekend and i get paid at some of em.

not sure if this method will be worth it to some as the clips are expensive for what you get, and there are really no aftermarket clips that match this kind. theres other cheaper methods, for sure, but i didnt feel comfy cutting the whole slab out of my bumper, especially since the bottom of the diffuser and bumper connect to the bumper supports to help keep things rigid.

Getting the part numbers took some research, and looking through the 06LX mopar parts america catalogue... kinda like the hood struts, a once pushed part, not listed as normal in the 07 LX parts america pdf...heres: a few closeups:

Yah.... that's really not worth 50$ to get 13 of em.... but ah well, i wanted to play, so i paid the piper and tipped him 50%.....

(And people wonder why Dodge has gone down the shitter???? Lets charge rediculous amounts for cheap ass COMMON parts!!! One can find parts to a BMW or Audi cheaper and easier....I've checked...and dodge is SUPPOSED to be Domestic....my ass)

Now the good side of this, is that the only cutting of the bumper to be done was the slots.... basically i mocked up the diffuser and marked to the left and right where the tabs ended all the way across the rear bumper. you can see in the second one, a dirty bumper helped show were the mark and drill.

i basically went the same way, exactly like the pic of the yellow car posted on the forums from a few months ago, here:

after that i drilled at both ends of the lines.... then drilled out the section inbetween each pair of drilled holes.... till basically there were about 12-13 slots in my bumper.

there are some pushpins that the top pops out with a screwdriver to remove on the lower inner and under side of the bumper, once you get under the car you will see them clearly. the bottom of the diffuser has tabs that wrap up under the bumper and the push pins go through them. in stock form the push pins are going through (2) two things...the bumper support and the bumper. you have to remove the pins so you can:

1) flex the bumper down a bit to get a hand up in there to install the spring clips through the tabs

and

2) connect the diffuser, bumper, and bumper support when at the end (pics of that later)

removing the bumper would make this far more easier, but its like the front grill, it doesnt necessarily have to be removed, if you have met me, anyone can vouch, i am not really a small person.

after that all you gotta do is press the upper tabs into the bumper and put the clips through the upper tabs, and this is hard to fit a hand in there so be careful and dont cramp up a forearm doing it (happened twice, but it was deadlift day at the gym)...

above is what they should look like when pressed through. you will hear a click when its fully pressed through. take your time, as there are some weird angles you will have to position yourself in. the entire install, i didnt have use of a jack or jackstands, so all of this was done on level ground of a stock height car. so you smaller uso's can prob do this far quicker than the 1.5 hours it took me. my shirt size is 3 - 4XL, so all of yas wearing L or Xtra-Smediums.... you should have FAR MORE wiggle room if your car isnt lowered.

Finished project, no gaps:

Now as i mentioned above, the tabs at the bottom of the diffuser, theres like 4...

(you can see 1 of them hanging down in the last of the 3 pictures above)

i basically just removed the pushpins from the stock bumper, then simply overlapped the tabs and then sandwiched the bumper and diffuser tabs together with the bumper support, and put the pushpin through and pushed it in.
