Ode To Johnny

It's December 8th 1980
In the shadows a man stands waiting
a book in one hand
a gun in the other
Dressed in black he's undercover
Down the streets
in some studio Hops in a limo
headed toward Central Park
it's 10 o clock and after dark.
The limo stops at West 72nd
the man gets out
He's unprotected
The man in the shadows draws his gun
towards his victim he begins to run
Firing shots into the man's back
his body is bleeding
his bones begin to crack
The victim cries out in agonizing pain
as he is showered with bullets
like rain.
The ambulance arrives to save his life
He's taken to the hospital along with his wife.
As he's wheeled into the emergency room
the surgeons doubt they can heal his wounds.
Lying on the table the doctors discover that
they are unable.
Now the man is pronounced dead
his body is lying in a pool of red
His wife comes in she is weeping
but he is eternally sleeping.
The next day the world is
consumed by silence
mourning the effect of the
terrible violence.
He is gone
never to return;
His wife sentences his body
to burn.
May his memory linger on
It's the only way he can ever be strong.
Hearts united
Love has won
our vigil for this wonderful person has only just begun.
