'Show Me The Meaning Of Being Lonely' with those seven words, the viewer of this video is given a much deeper look at the Backstreet Boys. The way this video starts is gut wrenching enough, with Brian passing away in a cold, very dark looking hospital. He watches himself trying to be brought to life again when he knows that he is gone from this world for good. The direction in this part is exceptional, with having the room in white with a stripe of red, and all color is drained from Brian, leaving him in shades of black, gray, and white. The theme in this portion of the video is fairly evident, since we all know of Brains past heart condition and surgery. Aj is the solitary rider of a bus which we won't know were it's going until the climax of the video. He sings of his broken heart or the ends of a relationship. Aj holds a picture of his love in his hands and cry's a single tear. He sees his love walk bye and turns only to realize that it is a figment of his imagination. The theme here is also evident, it could possibly be about breaking up with Amanda Latone, or also feeling completely alone in the world (hence being the only one on the bus, crying one tear). The filming in this scene is also very gray and to say the least, it's depressing (as is the majority of the video). Next we have Kevin sitting in a bedroom watching old footage from his childhood of him and his father who passed I believe sometime in 1993 (although I could be wrong). The room is of course extremely dark and it's raining outside. The best shot at this part is when Kevin is looking out of the window and between his head and the window, you see an image of his father. The theme here is obviously the death of his father and how he will never forget him. I'd have to watch I'll Never Break Your Heart again, but I think the rooms are somewhat the same, at least with similar types of wallpaper. The fourth major scene is of Nick walking down the street. He's in the rain walking and singing by himself until a bus comes by and he saves a girl from being killed by it by pulling her back. ( I origionaly thought of this description :There really isn't much of a story here but after talking to others and thinking about it, Nick could possibly be dead in the video. Since he is never interacting with others and the girl seems to be wondering how she didn't get hit by the bus. ) But now I have realised the explaination that seems more fitting. Someone who read the origional description of this e-mailed me and sent me the "real" answer. She claimed that Nick had a friend when he was younger who tried to kill herself. That's what the young woman in the video was trying to do; she obviously saw the bus comming and headed straight for it. Finally we have Howie drinking coffee and watching something, probably a movie. While he's singing he turns around to see a woman in a red dress running towards him and then fade away. The theme here is definitely the death of his sister Caroline, though the video does lack time in helping to support this.(however howies part is short so I cannot criticize the video for lack of time). As the music plays on there are images of young women lighting candles or looking up to the moon. Back on the street again, Aj's bus stops and the place of destination is revealed to be Denniz St. This parallels to Denniz PoP's death last year. The five boys join on the street and walk while they are singing. (Notice they come together on Denniz st. to prove that they can get through the rough times together) Towards the very end of the song they are walking but it's no longer dark. They are going towards light, and everything now has color/it's another day or world. This represents that even with all the bad things that happen there is another day, or when someone passes away you will see them again in your eternal life. This video is definitely a 10 on a scale from one to 10; it really makes you think...it gets inside your skin and stays in your mind for hours after you watch it. "Show Me The Meaning (Of Being Lonely) is the best Backstreet Boys video yet, the director should be extremely happy with the results as I am sure are the boys. Each person poured their individual hearts into this 3 some minute video, and that's all that really matters.
