Nick Carter laughed as his best friend Megan chased him around with a water gun. “HAHA, you can’t catch me!” 7-year-old Nick teased her.
“I can too!” Megan replied, putting on a burst of speed and catching him. She tackled him and they both fell to the sand. They were at a picnic that their parents had thrown for their 7th birthdays. They were in Nick’s backyard, and Megan had brought out the water gun while the parents were oohing and ahhing over the newest addition to the Carter family, twins Aaron and Angel, who had been born 2 months ago. Nick had two other sisters, BJ, who was 5, and Leslie, who was 3. Megan also had one sister, Anna, who was 5, and best friends with BJ. The two were busy playing “tea party” with Leslie and three stuffed bears. But Megan couldn’t be bothered with such “girlie” stuff, she liked hanging out with Nick and doing boy stuff.
“Nick, Meg, come on over and eat!” Nick’s mom, Jane, called to Nick and Megan, who were now attempting to build a sandcastle.
“K, Mom, be right there!” Nick yelled as he and Megan got up and brushed the sand off each other. The two had been best friends since Nick had moved to Florida when he was four. They shared everything, from birthdays to ice cream cones. They both loved to dance and sing, and they were in the same class at school.
Nick and Megan raced each other to the table. When they got there, Megan’s mom, Donna, strapped pointy birthday hats on their heads. The two stood over the birthday cake as their families sang. “Now, make a wish!” Nick’s dad, Bob, told the kids as they looked at the seven candles burning brightly. They both shut their eyes, and made a wish. Megan turned to Nick. “Ready?” Nick nodded. “One, two, three,” he said. They both blew as hard as they could.
SNAP! Bob took a picture, capturing the perfect moment.
