Little
girl
With scabby knees;
She's catching bugs...
And climbing trees.
Chubby cheeks
Long brown hair;
Her eyes aglow...
Without a care.
Tattered dress
She whirls around;
"To dizzy land!"
"All fall down!"
Screendoor creeks
Mom calls low:
"Come in baby...
"Time to go."
Light streams
Behind her head;
Toys are dropped...
Time for bed.
Water warm
Caress her skin;
In bathtime play...
She's clean again.
"Goodnite God"
She mumbles low;
"See you tomorrow...
"I Got's to go!"
Gentle sleep
Surrounds her now;
Her mother's hand...
Strokes her brow.
Mother calls:
"Rise and shine!"
She snuggles down...
One more time.
Day breaks
And not a sound;
She's all grownup...
She looks around.
Little girl

Back in time...
And climbing trees.
