For the ultimate DVD experience, invest in surround sound, wich means buying an AV (audio-visual) amplifier plus extra speakers.
DVD discs feature three different types of surround sound: Dolby Surround is a simple processed surround effect, Dolby 5.1 and DTS are hi-tech systems that feature separate front effect, centre and rear speakers, plus a deep bass (subwoofer). With Dolby 5.1 or DTS recording you can have six different sounds indipendently emerging from each of six speakers.
