MTA Buses: 1951-1963

In 1951, the Boston Street Railway passed on the torch to the Metropolitan Transit Authority.  Within the span of 12 years, the MBTA purchased several series of traditional-style GM Old Looks, Macks, Whites, and the popular "fishbowl" buses, technically called "New Looks."  The MBTA, upon purchasing the Eastern Mass Railways bus operations in 1968, also inherited its fleet of buses - some of which had seen better days - and merely slapped MBTA logos on them.  It wasn't until 1970-1971 that the former Eastern Mass garages got newer buses, allowing the older Eastern Mass buses to retire.  The best of the Eastern Mass fleet remained; the slightly newer Eastern Mass fishbowls survived into 1982.
