Val
& Mike's MCC Assignment Webpage
Hi!
June 16, 2005: I have now been working at the National Research Council Canada's Institute for Biodiagnostics for nearly a year. I started with a six month contract which was then extended to a year. After waiting for well over a month to find out whether I would be offered another contract I will now start a new two year contract with NRC in July. I had to go through a big interview process at NRC and was offered a job by another company in the interim but am happy with the outcome. At this point two years sounds like a long time to be sure of a job.
Laurel continues to grow and develop - she is much bigger than Alayna was at her age, is just starting to roll over and does a lot of reaching for things. Last week we moved her from the cradle she was sleeping in to a crib.
Alayna is speaking in complete sentences (OK not always but I am amazed at how her grammar is improving) and is a wonderful big sister. Besides the occasional battle of the wills with her parents she is a joy to be around.
Valerie is at home full time and that keeps her more than busy for now. She takes the girls to a couple of playgroups a week (one at Charleswood Mennonite Church and the other at a school) along with usually a couple more outings. Tuesday afternoons she's been doing some Greek study with her dad which seems to be going well.
February 2, 2005: Laurel Irene Smith was born on Monday, January 31. Valerie and Laurel are both healthy and doing as well as can be expected. After a short 25 hour stay at the hospital we are all at home adjusting to this new family member. I am taking 5 weeks of parental leave so that should make the adjustment a lot smoother. I hope to keep updated pictures posted here
January 24, 2005: I guess at some point we'll have to get some other things up on a website besides Bosnia and Alayna but not today. We've now been back in Winnipeg for over a year. I'm settling in to my job at the National Research Council Canada's Institute for Biodiagnostics. My contract there is currently to the end of July, 2005. We've bought a house which we moved into in December and are awaiting the birth of our second child any day now.
Blessings, Michael
