Greetings and Welcome!
Welcome Interruptions( a short story)
One of my favorite stories
is of Sir Edwin Landseer,
a famous artist of animals.
One of his great paintings
is painted on the wall
of a beautiful inn
that overlooks
the rugged terrain
of Scotland.
Some years back,
during a celebration
when the inn was new,
somebody popped open
a bottle of soda and
it sprayed onto the newly painted wall
before the paint and plaster were dry,
leaving a dirty,
brown stain running down the wall
to the floor.
The host who owned the inn
was understandably angry.
He evicted the guest
and the party broke up early.
Sir Edwin was one of the guests
there that night.
After everyone left
for the evening,
including the host,
Sir Edwin locked the door,
opened his bag,
took out his paints and brushes
and went to work on the stain.
Before long,
the ugly brown stain
turned into a brown rock.
Then he added cypress,
evergreens, spruce,
and a mountainside.
And on the rock,
standing on two feet,
he painted a proud beast,
the Mountain Stag
– a goat with curled horns.
Curling around the rock
was a mountain stream
with white foam.
Sir Edwin took an ugly stain
and transformed it into a beautiful painting.
He came up with a positive solution
to an unwelcome interruption in life.
What unwelcome interruption
can you find beauty in today?
Beauty beckons within welcomed interruptions.

It's so easy to let "cloudy" vision
interpret life's interruptions
in negative ways.
May I learn to welcome these interruptions
as beautiful guests in my life.
