  HE B J U

No, this isn't a case of broken keyboard or a wild party after-effect, but in fact it's the sign on the marquee of "The Bijou", the run down small town theater that gives name to what is shaping to be Jim Carrey's next project.

Always on-the-know Moriarty at Aint-It-Cool-News reports that Jim Carrey is set to star as the lead character, Peter Appleton, under Frank Darabont's direction and (really great choice) opposite Martin Landau, who'll play Peter's 'father'. He also gives a quite positive review of the script which you can read at the link below.

"Grinch" trailer now in Quicktime

"The Grinch" game review

Gamesmania got to review a demo of Konami's "Dr. Seuss' How The Grinch Stole Christmas" video game. More specifically, the Playstation version. Besides the review, they also have a ton of screen grabs from the game. Take a look:

The Grinch continues to steal the Olympics

Still on the Grinch-Olympics theme, Bryan told us this:

"While watching the Olympics the best part came on, the commercials. When I heard that beautiful Christmas [music] come on. The screen was black, slowly scaling up from Grinchy feet to Grinchy face, there he stood Jim Carrey as the Grinch. The preview showed scenes from the new trailer, the old one and clips from the movie never seen before. Such as when the Who's are gathered around the white sweater wearing Grinch with a disgusted look on his face, then the shirt lights up and says I Love X-Mas. It's going to be the best movie of all time let me tell ya."

Jim Carrey Online Reports....

Let The Games Begin!!

Take a look at what Eric told us about how the Grinch stole the Olympics:

"Have you seen the Grinch ads??

I live here in Toronto, Canada, and I have spotted some pretty cool Grinch ads in the downtown core. They appear to depict the Olympics. I'll do my best to describe them...

1) Seen on a streetcar: The Grinch running the baton race; waiting for his teammates to pass the baton to him.

2) Seen on a garbage [bin?] (I know all the places): Shot of runners legs as they are lined as if about to start a race, the Grinch's leg clearly out of place in the middle. (funny)

3) Seen on a HUGE billboard: The Grinch doing gymnastics, the rings I believe, seems to be in the air doing the splits, with a big grin on his face. (totally cool)

That's all for now, I'm sure more will be popping up as the 'games begin'."

Adding to that, SmilinJackRuby at Fandom also reports on Grinch/Olympics tie-in ads in Los Angeles featuring one of the posters on his editorial, which you can see here.

-- With a big Spank You to Eric for the ads info.

New "Grinch" trailer in theaters today

Universal Pictures will debut the theatrical trailer for "Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas," on Friday, September 22, along with national sneak previews of "Meet The Parents", Universal's upcoming comedy starring Robert De Niro and Ben Stiller.

According to Stacey Snider, chairman of Universal Pictures, "Seeing this trailer on the big screen will not only give audiences another look at the genius of Jim Carrey's phenomenal performance as The Grinch, but a look at the overall scope of the entire production. The filmmakers have assembled the very best people working in movies today in every field, from set design to costumes, from special effects to cinematography, from sound to music, in order to transport the viewer to the incredible fantasy world that is Whoville."

"Christmas In Whoville"

The winner of Tonos' "Take The Grinch Challenge" has already been disclosed. It was Jeanette Castillo an Indiana native who has been writing song lyrics for more than ten years. Jeanette, along with her husband (a music engineer/producer), also owns a recording studio on Santa Barbara, California.

She found the Challenge by chance through a web search on "lyrics" and couldn't resist giving it a try, having penned "Christmas In Whoville" only two days before the contest's close. According to an interview given to Tonos website, Castillo said that "I've been a Grinch fan all my life. I was born in 1960 and the animated film version came out in '63, so it's been a part of my life that whole time."

Jeanette Castillo's lyrics will be sung by Kristen Collins, a 15-year-old from Jackson, Michigan. Kristen was a finalist in Tonos' TV Tryouts and the Tonos A&R staff was so impressed by her vocal talent that chose her to perform the song.

The words to "Christmas In Whoville" were faxed to Collins for the first time on Monday, 18 and on Tuesday she was already flying to LA to start working on the track, alongside veteran Carole Bayer Sager and writers/producers David Foster and Steve Kipner (who also works with pop singer Christina Aguilera).

"Christmas In Whoville", which Kristen thinks is "a cool song. I heard it on the website, and I really liked the melody, and the lyrics are really cute", will not only be on the movie but will also be included on its soundtrack CD.

Entertainment Tonight is supposed to be showing "exclusive" scenes from the "Grinch" movie today, and Access Hollywood is supposed to show scenes (probably the same ones as ET; possibly not, though) from it tomorrow. :) ET's website has a video clip - I don't know exactly what's on it; I haven't watched it yet.

"Me, Myself & Irene" video release

According to Variety, 20th Century Fox is planning to release "Me, Myself & Irene" on video next January. No word yet if a DVD version (hopefully with all the 32030 miles of footage that got edited out due to time restraints) will be available to buy.

- Short note to Mr. Peter and Mr. Bobby Farrelly: We want to see the watermelon scene, okay? ;-)

Yeah I totally agree with the JCO crew. I love extra footage :) The more the better..

I've found this free card at the cinema..cool huh, they sure do lobby around good for the Grinch. But uh oh. De griezel die Kerstmis bedierf. That sounds very Dutch. They are probably going to dub it, like most family films here. Luckely they also always show the origional version. That's the one I'm going to see :).

Here are a couple pictures of Jim Carrey & Renee Zellweger at the premiere of her new movie "Nurse Betty" :) They both look charming, don't they? ahhhhh....thanks to Liz for the links!

Jim Carrey Online has got a whole lot of things to report too...read on while I'm just spreading their words... Coming Attractions by Corona unveiled the second "Grinch" teaser poster. And now, they have reported on a new "Grinch" trailer, which is available exclusively on Entertainment Asylum.

Sadly, the video quality is so blurry and often laggy that you might not see the whole trailer at all. The audio is a bit poor but you can still hear it. You can also hear the Grinch's voice, which sounds like a cross of Tony Clifton and Sean Connery (at least, to me it does). Listen very carefully to a humorous dialogue between the Grinch and Cindy Lou Who. The trailer is in Real Media format, though one of the scoopers from Coming Attractions wished it would be in Quicktime.

"Grinch" website finally open!

"Dr. Seuss' How The Grinch Stole Christmas" official movie website opened today. There's a few areas of the site that are still under development (the Grinch's cave being one of them, darn it!) but there's plenty of cool stuff to discover as you wonder around Who-ville. The cartoonish design is just beautiful but you'll need Shockwave Flash plug-in to enjoy it in full.

And Angelika, my column (you ARE reading that one don't you????) co writer send some scoop to them too, also to me, but I didn't have the time yet so now you'll be reading Jim Carrey Online's report on it. Thanks anyway Angelika!!!!! You're great!!
New "Me, Myself & Irene" website

Angelika just let us know that the German website for "Me, Myself & Irene" opened today. There are only two areas functional yet, but it's worth taking a look at already, specially because of a certain Shockwave game that Fox seems to have been too, um... chicken, to release on their main "Irene" website. "Me, Myself & Irene" opens in Germany, October 19th.

A "Grinch" update

Here's a collection of several "Dr. Seuss' How The Grinch Stole Christmas!" bits appeared recently on the web and other media outlets. Take a deep breath and read on:

- Jim Carrey will be on the November cover of the re-launched Details magazine.

- The movie was already officially rated PG by the MPAA. For those not familiarized with the US ratings system, PG - "Parental Guidance Suggested" - means that the ratings board considered that some material may not be suitable for children. (Uh?!)

- Sir Anthony Hopkins was selected by Ron Howard as the "Grinch" narrator. Following the footsteps of Boris Karloff, the original narrator of the 1966 classic cartoon by Chuck Jones, Hopkin's assignment was described by Universal as a combination of dialogue from the book and original narration. According to Entertainment Tonight, in a news piece that showed the actor during the recording session, it took only one day for Hopkins to finish the task.

- The second, and quite beautiful, advance poster will be already available to buy this week.

- Composer James Horner talked recently to The New York Times about his work on "Dr. Seuss' How The Grinch Stole Christmas!" You can register for free and read it at the newspaper's website, following this link.

- Adding to a mile long list of tie-ins, Dynamic Forces will be releasing a Grinch-themed trading card set which will feature images from the movie along with Dr. Seuss classic Grinch images and original illustrations by the Hildebrant Brothers, Dan Jurgens, Alex Horley and John Estes, among others. All the details can be found at Diamond's page. Dynamic Forces is also releasing an original, movie-inspired lithograph by the Hildebrandts which can be viewed here.

- In a perhaps more unexpected alliance, Universal will be also promoting the movie through "Grinch" racing car paint schemes namely on John Force's Ford Mustang (NHRA) and Terry Labonte's Chevy Monte Carlo (Nascar). If you're a collector, 1/24 diecast models of the cars will be available to buy in specialty shops, as of November.

- Producer Brian Grazer gave an interesting interview to USA Today, titled "How The Grinch Got So Grinchy", in which he addresses some of the plot adaptations required to turn the original short story by Dr. Seuss into a feature film, what is the core message of the film and the philosophy behind the makeup and sets conception. The Grinch's cave is described in the article as "a styrofoam labyrinth of ingenuity, loosely modeled on New York's Guggenheim Museum." Click to read the entire article.

Speaking on foam, the company behind several of the "Grinch"'s sets is the Studio Foam Shop and, for those who enjoy these production details, you can take a peek at some of their models here.

- And finally, here's a few assorted quotes heard around Who-ville:

"You really can't describe it, he so totally inhabits his character and is completely unique. You've never seen a screen character like the Grinch. And he brings it to life in a way that is totally related, and really funny, but complete. You know, with a soul." -- Director Ron Howard on Jim Carrey's performance. E! Online (8/4/00)

"About two weeks in, I was having a lot of trouble with the Grinch suit, so they brought a guy in who actually teaches people how to handle torture, and he gave me a couple of tips. You just forget [the pain]. Sitting around in that suit was not too fun, but performing in it was amazing. I can be as uncomfortable as I want, but when somebody says action, it's like going into another reality." -- Jim Carrey on the Grinch's makeup. Entertainment Weekly (8/15/00)

"I looked at the Grinch as someone who is not just the angry guy, he's hurt. He's upset. I wanted to be able to make the Grinch sympathetic. I don't want it to get scary, but I thought to myself, 'This is a guy who wants to be invited to the party.'" -- Jim Carrey on the Grinch's character development. Sun Times (6/29/00)

"The Grinch is different. That is the wonderful thing about this tale. It is not just about the Christmas commercial. It is about people who kid themselves into thinking that they don't want to be a part of the party. Everybody wants to be a part down deep! Sometimes we get ourselves caught up in our own self-loathing. We shut ourselves into caves." -- Jim Carrey again on the Grinch's character development. Entertainment Tonight (6/19/2000)

"He's spectacularly brilliant as The Grinch. The industry won't be able to ignore that… [Carrey is] very accessible, totally prepared, always giving 10,000 percent. He's the real thing." -- Christine Baranski on colleague Jim Carrey. Hartford Courant

-- FilmForce and MovieHeadlines gave some good driving instructions to Mt. Crumpit. With a big Spank You also to HAL 9000 for the MPAA info and to ClassAct Movie Posters for the poster release date.

Jim Carrey Online reports...

Jim Carrey presents MTV Video Music Awards

Jim Carrey rocks it at the sound of Foghat's Slow Ride Catching by surprise pretty much everyone, Jim Carrey was one of the presenters of the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards, held yesterday at the Radio City Music Hall in New York City.

Carrey walked on stage at the sound of Foghat's "Slow Ride" and explained that one of the reasons for his last minute appearance had been a phone call from Ron Howard suggesting the event as a way to promote the upcoming "Dr. Seuss' How The Grinch Stole Christmas". Imitating the director, Carrey re-enacted the conversation, replying to Howard's gentle phrasing with "Ron, cut the crap, I know a threat when I hear it."

Carrey introduced Eminem's medley of "The Real Slim Shady" and "The Way I Am" observing that "I've got to be honest, I enjoy his music, but he scares me. His lyrics are totally, socially, unacceptable but you know what, I think if we spend some time with our kids, we'll be okay."

The award show was hosted by Shawn & Marlon Wayans and, for those who missed it, MTV will repeat the event again on September 9th at 1:30PM (ET/PT), and September 10th at 11AM (ET/PT) and 7PM (ET/PT).

Heaps of new "Grinch" pictures!

French Premiere has put online 10 high quality pictures from "Dr. Seuss' How The Grinch Stole Christmas", many of them never seen before. It looks as Universal is starting their promotional effort earlier overseas, which is a very good strategy considering that Dr. Seuss' literature is practically unknown in non-English speaking countries.

The pictures that feature the Grinch in action are quite amazing and not only do they reflect, once again, the wonderful job Rick Baker has done with the makeup, but also prove as totally unfounded any earlier concerns that Jim Carrey's outstanding facial abilities would be hindered by the amount of latex covering his face.

Click on the thumbnails to see the pictures in all their glory and check also Premiere's site for the rest of the lot.

New "Grinch" poster!

by s.a._jcfan

The beautiful new Dr. Seuss' How The Grinch Stole Christmas Poster You gotta admit; the poster of the Grinch's hand holding a red, broken ornament with a black background is intriguing. But it seems like that's all there is to "The Grinch". Plus, we've already seen it at www.meanone.com and www.grinched.com, so it's almost... boring. You better watch out cuz you're about to meet him face-to-face.

Coming Attractions by Corona scored an exclusive and beautiful pic of the new teaser poster for "The Grinch". It features his not-so-humble abode, Mt. Crumpit and tiny figures of the Whos gathering around a glowing Christmas tree. Floating above is a huge close-up of the Grinch who will leave the same expression he has on your face as well as on other people passing by this soon-to-be-released poster. This is visually exquisite and it's hard to imagine that this (and the teaser trailer) shows only a portion of what we'll see this Thanksgiving.
