Some of the most memorable scenes in "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" were actually ad-libbed my Matthew himself including the one with the clarinet and the line "Never had one lesson".

the TV series Family Ties, but declined because he did
not want to leave New York, where his father was dying
of cancer. Michael J. Fox was cast in his place.
