This is Matthew Broderick's bio as it reads in the 1983 "Who's who in the Cast": Matthew Broderick is the son of late actor James Broderick and painter Patricia Broderick. Born and raised in New York City, he made his professional acting debut just prior to his graduation from Walden School in 1979 in HB Studio's production of Horton Foote's On Valentine's Day, co-starring with his father. During the fall of 1981, Mr. Broderick began a six-month run as David in the Off Off-Broadway production of Torch Song Trilogu, receiving critical acclaim as well as both the Outer Critics' Circle and Villager Awards when the play moved to Off-Broadway. While at Walden he performed in A Midsummer Night's Dream, Black Comedy, A Doll's House and The Threepenny Opera. In addition, he has appeared in a guest-starring role on television's "Lou Grant". Brighton Beach Memoirs marks his second association with Neil Simon in less than a year, having co-starred this past summer with Jason Robards and Marsha Mason in Mr. Simon's latest film, Max Dugan Returnsm under the direction of Herbert Ross. Just prior to beginning rehearsals for the play he completed work starring in the upcoming United Artists' relase Wargames, directed by John Badham. Mr. Broderick has studied acting with Bruce Cornwall and currently studies voice with Robert Leonard. Matthew came back for the role of Eugene Morris Jerome in "Biloxi Blues" for both Broadway and the movie version. The movie version of "Brighton Beach Memoirs" had Jonathan Silverman as the lead role, who took over for Matthew on Broadway as well. |
