The Blair Hordeski Sandwich

Blair Hordeski is the first person/band to send me a CD or promotional item. Thanks Blair, it looks like you might be starting a trend. The Blair Hordeski Sandwich is a band based out of Manitoba. They are comprised of singer/songwriter Blair Hordeski, guitarist Murray Pulver (Crash Test Dummies), bassist Sean Garrity (Wyrd Sisters) and drummer Steve Broadhurst.

The CD itself is very well done, even for an indy. So what's the music like you ask. That is a good question. I can honestly say I've never heard anything quite like it. I must admit though, it is pretty good. The music style itself is all over the place.

The 1st song "Drinkin' Tonight" is like a George Thorogood song if I've ever heard one; complete with rockin' sax. The 3rd song, "The Doo Doo Song" (no, not that kind of doo doo! - at least I don't think so…) is almost Blues Traveler-ish with harmonica. "That Man", which is my fav song on the album is very cool. Its got this slow groove funk blues soul easy listening thing going. Number 6, "Head On My Shoulders" is a Much Music video just waiting to be made and the 8th song, "Metaphorically Speaking" has a sort-of-but-not-quite Barenaked Ladies thing happening.

Overall, the CD is quite good. Very easy to listen to (not to be confused with easy listening, though). I've studied to it quite a bit myself. I guess what really makes Blair's music different is his voice. He's got a definite 1950's singer thing going. He has a voice you're used to hearing in swing music and it makes for unique mix over his band's rock-alternafolk music stylings.
