She had lied to Paul; she knew exactly where she was going. But she had to do it. He would have followed her if she had told him. So would John. But there was a difference there; she almost wanted, hoped, prayed John would follow. She'd given him a big hint, and hoped he'd figure it out...but then again, what would she do if he did?
At the ticket counter, a thoroughly disguised Beth (under the assumed name S.[parkle] O'Reilly) bought a one-way, first-class ticket to Almeria, Spain.
Meanwhile, in the seat of a Rolls-Royce...
John stewed. I've ruined everything for her. I told her I love her, and now she's running away from everything good she has. I wonder if she loves me, too? I shouldn't have told her. Well, if she had found out later, I wouldn't have a chance with her. Perhaps she loves me...and she loves Paul, too. That would be a reason to need time to think. I wonder where Beth has gone?
A peal of thunder rocked his eardrums, and the overcast sky proved its worth. It began to rain. John cried.Beth loves rain. She'd probably want to go somewhere with regular rainstorms, but she said someplace with sun, too. Of course, she'd want to swim, so it would have to be warm. 'And don't forget to practice your Spanish...' Wait...what about Spain? He stopped his car on the side of the road. That's it! She's going to Almeria! I miss her already...could she? Guess the only way to know is to go. But shouldn't I wait a while, see what happens? No, I never go anywhere by doing that. This'll prove to her that I'm willing to go to any length to be with her, that I really do love her. Why else would she have given me hints?
John pulled back onto the road. I'm going to find her. He made a U-Turn and headed back into town to get some money and catch a flight.
That's it, my friends. This is the end of the book. Thanks for hanging in for so long. Hope I didn't dissapoint you; but if I did, or if you're curious about the abrupt ending, wait around 'til March 2000, and I'll start posting the SEQUEL (which is already partway written, but I don't have the time to put it on the net right now.) I'm going to go through the book with a fine toothed comb before then, so check back here every so often for updates. Also, Check out the Thank You's page to see who helped me out with this.
Thanks and love,
