Nippletop Timeline

1837 Ebenezer Emmons and his party made the first recorded ascent of Nippletop on August 30, 1837.

1921: On On August 9th, 1921 George Marshall, Bob Marshall, and Herbert Clark, the three men who were the first to climb all 46 High Peaks, made their ascent of Nippletop. It was only their twenty-fourth High Peak and would wind up being the ninth of twenty-six High Peaks they would climb that year.

1955: In 1955, the USGS performed a survey using standard (English) units [i.e. feet], identifying Nippletop as 4620 feet tall making it the thirteenth tallest mountain in the Adirondacks.

1978: In 1978, the USGS performed a survey using metric units [i.e. meters], identifying Nippletop as 4593 feet tall. It corrected the 1955 USGS standard unit survey measurement of Nippletop by twenty-seven feet when converted and changed the height rank of the mount from the thirteenth tallest to the fifteenth tallest mountain in the Adirondacks.
