Users
practice the assumption of multiple identities online. These are employed
for different purposes in different virtual environments.
Examples of different practices are:
1. Language-oriented
In different language-oriented virtual environments, users can use nicknames
in different languages. Users can use chinese nicknames in a chinese chatroom
environment, and english nicknames in an english chatroom environment.
2. Creating a 'scene' to become famous
A single user, by having multiple identities, can also create a 'scene'
in the chatroom in order to create a name for himself or herself, to become
famous in a particular chatroom.
3. Multiple 'cloning' (solo rooms)
Likewise for the practice of having multiple accounts in chatrooms, users
also may practice multiple 'cloning' of individual chatrooms, in order
to assume multiple identities online.
