Photoshop Making Banners Tips Site Home

.:Using Hue/Saturation:.

I think this is one of the coolest options in Photoshop. Basically you can use the hue/ saturation option to change colors of specific parts of an image. Lets say, you don't like the color of a persons shirt in an image. Well w/ this you can change it!

I will be using a picture of actress Rebecca Herbst, because this is the picture I discovered it on :)

As you can see, the picture is shades of pinks and reds. However, I was making a banner and realized that I had 2 other pictures where she was wearing blue. So I fiddled around with this and basically, I got it her w/ a blue shirt :) Some of this will apply to if a person is being used, or maybe nature things. The concept is all the same though no matter what you use.

1. Oopen the image you want to change.
2. Duplicate the background Layer. Go into the Layer Palette, right click on the layer and hit Duplicate Layer.
3. On the layer you just created, go to Image > Adjustments > Hue/Saturation.
4. A window will open up that looks like this
5. Now to change the color, you move the Hue slider. To change the shade of the color you move the saturation. Keep the list option at Master. Here's what mine looks like:

6. When you click okay, you will see that the whole picture is that blue and shades of it. But wait, her skin looks horrible!! This is why we duplicated the layer.
7. Go and get the Eraser tool and select a small brush size > maybe 5-7. Now, you can start erasing the skin of the person, and their correct skin color will show up from the previous layer. I recommend doing this on any hair, or any nature background or anything because the background colors might be something you want to keep the same.
8. Once you have erased as much as you want, go to Layers > Merge Visible (or Merge Down depending on if you have more than just those 2 layers).
9. Here's my final product:

Pretty cool huh? It works great if you are making banners and just can't get all the different images to look good...and the only thing stopping you is the colors!
