A Time For Romance
Hearts
Virginia McPheeters
A heart is a curious, wonderful thing;
It can't be ignored - nor yet explained.
It's something you have that you don't want to keep;
It's always for another's you seek.
You may carefully keep yours in perfect shape.
Then another heart may make it break.
You may keep your heart under lock and key
And stoutly insist, "It belongs to me,"
Then another may come from out of the blue
And your heart no longer belongs to you.
Now your state indeed is sad and forlorn
If the gift of your heart brings none in return.
But your joy untold will be ever new
If you look for your heart - and find you have two.
