I believe in one God. Not one true god, or one God above other gods. One God.
I believe God created the world.
The fact that He created it is of far more importance than the means He used or the time He took.
I believe that our knowledge of God has not kept pace with our knowledge of His universe.
The universe is vast and complicated beyond our present understanding. How can a thing be greater or more complex than the One who created it?
I believe that Jesus is the interface between God and Man.
He is God in a form we can understand.
I believe that Christ will come again to rule the world.
I have a sneaky suspicion that it won’t happen until we have made it a place fit for Him to live in. This will take a long time, and we will have to do it all ourselves.
I believe in the Holy Spirit. I believe it operates in the human world using means which are completely natural but not yet understood by science.
Trying to detect it by using our material senses or instrumentation makes as much sense as trying to detect the presence of sugar with a Geiger counter.
I believe that the Bible is the Holy Word of God.
I also believe that it has been filtered through many human minds and hearts, through telling and retelling, copying and translating. Humans are only human, they cannot avoid putting their own interpretations and emphasis on what they repeat. We should bear this in mind when we read the Bible.
Our world seems to be made up of roughly equal amounts of good and bad, negative and positive. Perhaps this is the only way you can create a Universe out of nothing. (1-1 = 0) . This explains the absolute, overriding importance of free will: we humans have the ability to choose to add to the sum total of what is good or what is bad in the world. I believe that in some way I don't fully understand the death of Jesus on the Cross permanently tipped the balance. At the end of time when everything comes together and all the equations cancel out, something positive will be left to continue. God's promise to us is that we can have a part in this.
I believe it is unfair to blame God for natural disasters ("Acts of God"). Stuff happens, good and bad. God only intervenes if He is asked.
I believe in the power of prayer. The spoken word is itself an instrument of great power, for once it is spoken it cannot be called back from the air. We have all experienced this, to our cost! And what is prayer, if it is not words spoken before God?
I believe that if an action is wrong, it is wrong for a reason. God did not invent the rules just to amuse Himself.
I believe that it should not be necessary to leave your brain at home when you go to Church. I take as my example St Thomas, who wanted to be sure of his facts before he committed himself. But once he was certain, he believed with all his heart.
I don't believe in blind faith.
This is a personal statement of my own beliefs. I don’t demand that everyone should agree with it. If you want to discuss these beliefs with me, I will be happy to do so, but I won’t fight you over them. The Bible urges us to strive against “sin, the world, and the devil.” It doesn’t say anything about fighting our fellow Christians.
May God keep you and bless you on your own personal journey of faith.
If you pray to a god who is good, kind and merciful, and cares for his (or her) people, then the name you use is irrelevant.
Given that Jesus is the only means by which humans can relate to God, and given that He has existed since the beginning of time, I am no longer certain that we can assume that He has shown Himself only once, in one form, to one group of people.
Jesus said: "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." He also said: "I have other flocks of which you know nothing."
I believe we have not paid enough attention to these words.
All prayers are answered, but sometimes the answer is “No”.
I believe that God forgives our sins. However, He does not always protect us from the consequences. Whatever has happened stays happened. Therefore we should be careful what we do, and be prepared to take responsibility for our own actions.
Religion is dangerous stuff. You need both eyes wide open.
