He was born June 4, 1897 in Paris, to
Thomas Joynes and Ida Buck Smedley.
He married Grace E. Poulsen Oct. 7,
1920 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
He farmed and ranched in the Paris
area most of his life.
He was an active member of the LDS
Church and was a high priest at the time
of his death.
He is survived by his wife, Paris; two
sons, C. Darrell Smedley, Paris; Thomas
L. Smedley, Pocatello; four daughters,
Violet Jensen, Parowan, Utah; Cloree
Jensen, Fish Haven; Beverly Silvers, San
Diego; Garna Arnell, Buena Park, Calif.;
16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren;
and four sisters, Lillian Beck, Paris;
Erva Sant, Salt Lake City; Ella Recher-
itzer, Summit City, Calif.; and Gertrude
Hill, Glendale, Calif. He was preceded in
death by one son James Joynes Smedley.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 1
p.m. in the Paris Stake Center. Friends
may call Thursday at the church in Paris
from 11 a.m. until time of the service.
Burial will be in the Paris Cemetery.
